Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Gristy left for a Holiday weekend visit in Houston with their son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Justin Gristy and Mr. and Mrs. Tina R. Gristy and Valrie and Mark. They will also visit with a daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Le Rebeus and son, Jimmy, at Freeport.
Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Tyson of Mullin are the parents of a daughter, Vickie Carol, seven pounds, born July 3 at San Saba Memorial Hospital.
James Rufus Cobern, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. P. Cobern, recently was named on the Spring Honor List at Sul Ross State College by Dean of the College, Dr. Bevington Reed. Cobern and his wife, the former Lee Ellen West, are spending the summer in San Saba.
The San Saba softball team was defeated 2 to 0 by the Fort Hood soldiers at Killeen Friday night, Woodrow Riggs, team manager reported. Players on the team include Joe Botello, catcher; Marvin Riggs, first base; James Reavis, second base; Toney Keeney, second base; Dillard Brown, third base; Mauro Botello, short stop; Wayne Gatliff, left field; Larry Hibler, center field; Clarence Garrison, right field; Ward Randolph, pitcher; Denny Riggs, Walter Lewis, and Woodrow Riggs, manager.
Sheriff Brantley Barker located the 1950 Chevrolet sedan stolen from Frank Clamp here near midnight, at San Angelo. He and Clamp went to San Angelo to recover the car. It was found parked in front of the Sears, Roebuck & Co. store there. Sheriff barker stated that the car had not been damaged and Clamp drove the car back to San Saba.
Miss Marilynn Timberlake of San Saba became the bride of First Lt. Lamar Johanson of Rantoul, Illinois in a candlelight ceremony July 2 in the First Baptist Church in San Saba. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Stephen Timberlake of San Saba are the parents of the bride. Mr. and Mrs. Marion Clyde Johanson of Cherokee are the parents of the bridegroom.

Approximately 30 vehicles were damaged when two restless juveniles apparently went on a binge of destruction, shattering windshield and smashing metal. Two city vehicles, three H. L. Freeland's trucks and several privately-owned automobiles fell victim to the destructive duo. The path of destruction included such streets as Pecan, Dry, Church, Wilcox, Live Oak and High. The two suspects were apprehended early Sunday morning by city officials near the Show Barn just outside Mill Pond Park. Both were turned over to Juvenile Probation Officer Ron Powell of Llano and taken to the Burnet County Jail. They were charged with criminal mischief of the felony grade (over $200 worth of damage).
The San Saba Butane Company, in San Saba, has changed hands. Harold Behrens, who has owned the business for the past fourteen years, has sold it to Forrest McGregor. According to McGregor, Jack Vaughn will be the new manager for the butane company. LaRue Smith and Lois Johnson will both still be with the company.
Mr. and Mrs. Sam Miller were honored with a barbecue supper at the Martin Vann home on Barnes Ranch. Hosts were Mr. and Mrs. Vann, Janette Vann, and Mr. and Mrs. Olan Tisdale of Pleasanton.
Melinda Cooksey Slaughter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Cooksey, and Nelson Jay Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Nelson G. (Pete) Smith of Richland Springs, were united in marriage June 21, in the home of the bride's parents.
Tomlinson's Dairy Mart in San Saba, has been sold to Howard and Brenda Young. The Tomlinsons owned the Dairy Mart for 12 years. Five years ago they moved to the present location.
San Saba Volunteer Fire Department Fire Marshal Richard Pierce is urging local residents, especially those within the city limits, to clean up their vacant lots and reduce the chance of fire. Pierce recommends that anyone with a lot should make sure the dead weeds are cut down and disposed of and that all debris be cleared away. Dead weeds, garbage, and other debris is always a fire hazard, but is especially dangerous now, as temperatures are climbing into the 100 range daily and no rain is forecast.
