PHOTO: FORMER COLLEGE BUILDING––This is the building of the old West Texas Normal and Business College which was established at Cherokee in 1985 by Francis Marion Behrns. Many students attended college in this building and after the Behrns School was closed in 1903, the building was used by the Cherokee Junior College. It became the property of Cherokee Public Schools in 1921, but in 1945 it was destroyed by fire and the present school building was built on the site. Although the original building is gone, a Texas Historical Marker will be dedicated at the site in remembrance of this college building and its history.
