110 Years Ago March 2, 1916
A. B. Estep, manager of the San Saba Creamery went to Temple where he secured the services of Mr. Spearman, an experienced ice cream and butter maker, who will have control of the creamery.
C. R. Green, President of the San Saba Marble Co., has bought what is known as the Ward residence from Mrs. Gardner Thomas. It belonged for many years to the W. T. Ward estate and was one of the first homes to be erected in the city many years ago. Having been remodeled and kept in a modern state it is a desirable piece of property.
Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Bearden of the Jym Sloan Ranch left for Lampasas for a visit with relatives. While there they will adopt a little daughter, Marene, from an orphans home at Austin.
Miss Effie Palmer, a trained nurse, was here enroute to her home at Dublin from Cherokee where she spent several days in the home of Prof. McDonald.
Riley Bros. have bought the stock of groceries and feed from the West End Grocery and moved the stock to the room occupied by the office of the Riley Cedar Co. in the Sloan building.
80 Years Ago March 7, 1946
Bagley and Byrd have razed the west side of their building and will build a fire-proof addition which will be rented to Ohse and Harkey for their gas appliances.
Misses Bonnie Lee and Maxine Broyles, Maycie Knight, Betty Evelyn Sifford and Betty Jo Ellison, students at San Marcos, spent the weekend with their parents.
There is wide demand for rent houses and for small homes to purchase in this city, states Randle R. Stone, who has recently opened a real estate office in connection with his work as secretary of the San Saba Junior Chamber of Commerce.
A new sidewalk is being laid along the east side of the store building recently bought by E. Guy Risien of this city, which is located north of the City National Bank building on North Cherokee Street.
The new garage building just being completed by Dean Warren will be open for business. The building is located on the old Baptist Church grounds on Highway 16 and will have a grocery and filling station in connection. Also a dozen tourist courts will soon be under construction.
