Mr. and Mrs. Allen Sutton visited in Sanderson recently with their daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Reg Monroe and family and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Deaton and family. The Suttons report that the homes of their children were not damaged by the flood waters.
Clyde V. Thompson has been named the new preacher for the Richland Springs Church of Christ. He assumed his duties at the church and he and his wife and adopted Navajo daughter, Shirley Ann, 6 years old, moved to Richland Springs from Kaufman. Thompson, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Thompson, lived in San Saba county when he was about four years old, he said.
Mrs. Scotty Oliver of Austin spent last week with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. M. Barker while her husband, 2nd Lt. Oliver, completed his second week of training with the National Guard at Fort Hood. They spent Father’s Day with his parents, Dr. and Mrs. C. M. Oliver, along with Mr. and Mrs. Charles Oliver Susan and Beth, of Dallas.
Don’t be frightened if you see coming toward you what you think is a driverless car. If you look closely you will likely see a 14-year-old boy or girl, who is taking drivers education. N. R. Priest is the instructor and Golding Motors furnishes the vehicle. Written tests are over for the several dozen young drivers, with the driving test coming next.

Kenneth G. Jones, sonar man seaman, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe W. Jones Jr. of San Saba, returned to San Diego, Calif., aboard the destroyer USS Braine from a six month tour of duty with the 7th Fleet in Far Eastern waters. The Braine, flagship of Destroyer Squadron 21, visited Manila, P. I.; Hong Kong, China; Hiroshima, Japan; Okinawa; Midway Island and Pearl Harbor.
M-Sgt. and Mrs. Joe A. Iwanowski and children, Lee and Lou Nell, spent the weekend with her mother, Mrs. Roy Crocket, after accompanying her home from Abilene where they were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Buie and family.
Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Lancaster received word that their daughter, Mrs. Irwin Benn of Pierre, S. D., had arrived by plane in San Diego, Calif., where she will visit a few weeks with her husband, who is stationed with the U. S. Navy there.
If any one- legged cowboys around here have lost a boot, they probably can find their foot gear at The News. Left-legged ones need not apply. Ervin Roberds found the boot in his river bottom near Algerita following one of the recent rises.
