Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Patton announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Wanda, to Mr. Joe Bob Garrett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Anson Garrett of Richland Springs, Texas.
Owen Renfro of San Saba was recently initiated into the Harris Blairs, men’s literary society at Southwest Texas State Teachers College. The Harris Blairs are a social organization which annually sponsors a Penny Dance and several other functions.
Miss Paula Bryant, sixteen-year- old daughter of Postmaster and Mrs. W. E. Bryant of San Saba, who was made Sweetheart of the San Saba High School Band in fitting ceremonies between halves in the Hamilton-San Saba football game at Rogan Field, has served as band majorette and has been a member of the High School Orchestra for two years.
Mr. and Mrs. Dayton Brandenberger announce the birth of a son born Nov. 8th. He was welcomed by three brothers. He inherits a fine name and we are sure he will make just as fine an agricultural and Future Farmer member as his big brothers.
A little-known fact about the manufacture of airplanes is that pecan nuts are used in the production. General Electric scientists say the National Pecan Shellers and Processors Association informs them that both pecan and walnut shells are used for blast cleaning of metals, other than iron, where it is important not to damage surfaces. Such application is used on cleaning carbon scale and other matter from parts of airplane engines, delicate moulds and other fitted metal products.

The Rochelle Riding Club awarded Laura Beth Gage a trophy for her First Place finish in the Junior Division. Dennie Sue Cummings won 2nd Overall High in the Senior Division in activities that were held at Rochelle.
Gene Higdon, formerly of Italy, Texas is the new San Saba Policeman. A graduate of the Police Academy he was six years experience in Dallas, Princeton and Balch Springs. He and his wife, Jo Ann, have two children, Johnny Michael, 11, and Amy Michelle, 4.
The annual award for Mr. Spirit went to Erasmo Salinas of San Saba High School. Ted Hubert, Principal, presented him with the award at the event that took place during halftime at the San Saba-Burnet football game.
Selected by Cherokee students and honored at the annual homecoming game were Robert Soliz as the Pep Squad Beau and Josie Salinas at the Football Sweetheart.
TEXAS PEANUT
PIE RECIPE
2 Tbsp. flour
½ cup sugar
½ tsp. salt
¼ cup cold water
1 cup dark corn syrup
3 eggs
2 Tbsp. butter
1 cup salted peanuts
½ cup coconut
1 unbaked 9-inch pie shell
Combine flour, sugar and salt. Add water and syrup, blending well and boiling gently 3-5 minutes. Slowly pour mixture into slightly beaten eggs, stirring continuously. Add butter. Spread peanuts and coconut over bottom of pie shell. Pour filling into crust. Bake at 425 degrees 10 minutes. Reduce heat and bake at 350 degrees 20 minutes.
