Youngsters seem oblivious to the heat as they enjoy the cool waters of the San Saba Swimming Pool located in Mill Pond Park. The pool seems to be one of the busier places in the city this summer as the thermometer continues to reach 90 and 100 plus temperatures each day. Showers last week did bring some relief to the heat but it didn’t slow business down at the Pool.

The first school building at Pecan Grove was an unpainted one room structure which was used until about 1812. It was then replaced by this two room structure which was used until consolidation of the school with San Saba in 1945. Located east of San Saba, the Pecan Grove Community was one of the early day settlements. The San Saba River is just west of the community, and the school and church house were surrounded by beautiful burr oak and pecan trees. The school is no longer standing but the Pecan Grove Church remains very active.
