100 Years Ago April 10, 1924

Miss Annie Crouch of Locker and Mr. Henry McCarty were married in San Saba. We wish for them much happiness through life.

Miss Lucile Hendricks, Ruth Lindsey and Mary Ketchum attended the week end Senior entertainment of Howard Payne college.

The interior of the old Corner Drug Store building is being repainted and overhauled for the new drug business which will open its doors to the public.

Charlie Lambert received returns from two of his native pecan tree nuts that were in a contest, and they graded 85.5 and 88. The nut that got first place graded 91.5. The nuts from the Lambert farm were grown on trees 8 to 10 inches in diameter. They are prolific bearers and well flavored.

Dr. Jos. Greer is now pleasantly located in the offices formerly occupied by Dr. Bass in the Clark Building.

Miss Myrtice S. Williams and Mr. George Bloomquist were married at the Methodist parsonage, Rev N. G. Ozment performing the ceremony.

I. E. Burleson and son, J. B. of Richland Springs were here attending to business and to attend the Ferguson Club meeting.

Mr. S. S. Allen, late of Goldthwaite, has been installed as local manager of the Barnes Lumber Company. Mr. Allen is most affable gentleman and thoroughly versed in the lumber business. The Star bespeaks for him a successful business career in our city. He will have as his first lieutenant the old reliable Jess Frizzell.

80 Years Ago April 13, 1944

Nelson Meyers, Seaman 2-C, is home on a 5-day furlough visiting his parents, Mrs. and Mrs. J. A Meyers, of Richland Springs. Nelson is a gunner's mate and is stationed at San Diego, Calif.

One of the largest crowds attended Sunday School last Sunday we have had in several Sundays. This hills are be-decked with the Texas bluebonnet to show that spring is here and blue is typical of true, so it is with Texas––a true spirit.

Mrs. Harry Doran and son, Gordon, presented our Sunday on Easter Sunday a beautiful hydrangea. This is a lovely thought and appreciated by the entire community.

Mr. and Mrs. Jack Sloan honored Mr. and Mrs. Quimby Brown with a barbeque at the Maxwell-King Ford. Quimby left the next day for training at Tampa, Florida.

Herman Atchison was in San Angelo where he volunteered his services to the Marines. This writer never learned whether he was accepted or rejected.

Small slips of ruled paper bearing the notation, 'Bonds Kill Sons,' thrown by prisoners of war on San Saba streets as an Army truck passed through here conveying the prisoners west of here, caused San Sabans to scoff at the audacity of the foreigners.

A new nursing home with some hospital facilities will be opened in the large two story residence formerly known as the Weatherby place and now owned by Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Ragsdale, who have given a long-term lease to Mrs. Eleanor Bode Hill.
