Ah, the vagaries of ranch living! Love it! Even so, I experienced one of the down sides this past week. My primary well went down! Evidently, during the freeze, the pipe leading from the well to the cistern cracked, and in the heat of this summer, it ruptured. My geese certainly enjoyed the mini swamp that ensued! I didn’t.
I am fortunate that I have a smaller well nearby, but it is not connected to my home’s system. So I have had to haul water in buckets to the house! Not a fun thing to do! One forgets just how heavy water is. I set up small metal tanks for the animals near the secondary well but still had to haul water for the chickens and for me! Ugh!
Just musing, on the civics news front: it looks like another womanizer may meet his match with the law and the anti-sexual harassment legal movement in this country! Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo, who is adamant in his own self-defense and supposed innocence, has been accused by the New York Attorney General of harassing at least 11 women! Cuomo appears to be in the high namerecognition company of Harvey Weinstein and Bill Cosby, just to name a couple. . .
Oh, well! Guess we as women need to be more direct in communicating “no means no!” Sad thing is, it is very hard to do when it is your boss or someone in power who is harassing you. Even so, feeling personal discomfort and sexual intimidation may need the addition of an occasional body jab. However, in that case, women would probably be charged with aggravated assault! “RESPECT” as in the words and song of Aretha Franklin!
Continuing to muse, I see Mr. Trump has raised lots of money since leaving office, $102 million! He has used only $100,000 of this money in political assistance to other recent candidates and has spent $8 million on his personal legal fees. Great life if you can get it!
Am looking forward to buying Alexander Vindman’s newly released book, Here, Right Matters. Lt. Col. Vindman, who testified in the first impeachment of the former President, was an immigrant from Russia at age three. Testifying, Vindman counseled his own father that the U.S. does “what is right” and is unlike Russia, sometimes called The Evil Empire. Doing what is right and morally correct is and should be an ongoing goal for all Americans, Republicans and Democrats alike!
Our democracy is based upon doing the “Right Thing” in the words of filmmaker Spike Lee. The “right thing” is also the premise of all of the words of Jesus Christ and the Old Testament prophets. “Right” is the Golden Rule - doing unto others as you would have them do unto to you…. something to be much desired in our democracy! Naïvete, maybe so, but something to aspire to.
Prayers for all those currently suffering from the Delta Covid. Prayers also for Texas children and Texas teachers preparing to enter school and a Delta threatened environment. Prayers for the Texas Governor who may be sending our children into the danger.
