A Pilgrimage! Pumpkins and More! October and the Garden Club News

By Anne H. Vincent

Ten Garden Club members traveled to Austin to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center on Tuesday, October 2nd, for the annual Garden Club pilgrimage. President Dianna Furlan and nine others enjoyed the incredible weather and the beautiful landscapes and flowers of the famous research center A Pilgrimage! Pumpkins and More! October and the Garden Club News By Anne H. Vincent originally established by former First Lady, Lady Bird Johnson.

Mrs. Johnson, whose passion for wildflowers in Texas and throughout the United States, desired to ensure the natural beauty of highways and natural areas of the U.S. at a time when pesticides and herbicides were causing calamitous damage to the flora and fauna of the country. Originally 45 acres, the Wildflower Center now encompasses more than 200 wild acres of the Edwards Plateau Aquifer Recharge area near Slaughter Lane and south MoPak Loop 1 in southwest Austin.

San Saba Garden Club Yard of the Month Fall Decorating Challenge

By Dianna Furlan - San Saba Garden Club - Yard of the Month, Committee Chair

Have you noticed the change in the air, the leaves changing, and the pumpkins showing up on door stoops? Last year, the San Saba Garden Club promoted the first Annual Business Decorating Challenge. This year, we are challenging the community to participate in the same type of decorating on a homeowner level.

Members of the San Saba Garden Club - Yard of the Month committee will drive the neighborhoods to select a yard decorated in all things fall! It seems that several homeowners on Commerce, Dry and Storey Streets have already gotten into the swing of the fall season. It's such a pleasure and joy to see the decorations, creativity and care that our homeowners demonstrate.
