Esquivels to celebrate 60th anniversary January 27th

Lorenzo and Macrina Esquivel will celebrate their 60th anniversary on January 27, 2018. The couple married on January 13, 1958 in Florence, Arizona. The Esquivels have five children: Rosemary Cisneroz, Hermina Paredez, Larry Esquivel, Blanca Hardy and Tammy Martin. They also have 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Fellowship of Christian Women to hold Luncheon January 25th

Parkview Baptist Church ladies invite the ladies of our county to a Winter Casseroles and Desserts Luncheon next Thursday, January 25th for our first meeting of 2018. The luncheon begins at 11:30 a.m. in the fellowship hall and our ladies in their 70’s will be treated this month. Other ages are encouraged to bring a favorite casserole or a favorite dessert to share around the serving tables. A nursery can be available at Parkview Baptist Church, if you phone Sharon Hayes in advance, for arrangements to be made. Remember to bring food for your children, if you want them to eat during the luncheon time.

Colorado Bend State Park Closed to the Public January 10th-12th

On Wednesday, January 10 through Friday, January 12, 2018, Colorado Bend State Park will be closed to the public for a drawn hunt. The park will close on Tuesday, January 9th at 10 p.m. and re-open to the public on Friday, January 12th at 2 p.m.

Where Have All the Quail Gone?

San Saba Bird and Nature Club welcomes Amanda Gobeli on Tuesday, January 16th. Ms. Gobeli will present a program on the causes of Northern Bobwhite quail decline.

When she visited last spring, Amanda brought along Kirby, a rescued quail with tons of personality! Everyone with an interest is welcome to attend. Join us at the San Saba Civic Center, 1190 S. Thomas Drive, at 2:00 p.m. Arrive early and visit.

Affordable health screenings coming to San Saba, Texas

San Saba, Texas – Residents living in and around the San Saba, Texas can learn about their risk for cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, diabetes, and other chronic, serious conditions with affordable screenings by Life Line Screening. San Saba Civic Center will host this community event on 1/17/2018. The site is located at 1190 South Thomas Stewart Dr. in San Saba.

Screenings can check for:

• The level of plaque buildup in your arteries, related to risk for heart disease, stroke and overall vascular health.

• HDL and LDL Cholesterol levels

San Saba Garden Club: Celebrating the Season

Garden Club members and guests celebrated the last meeting of 2017 in the newly renovated Mill Pond Park Building on Tuesday, December 5th at six p.m. in the evening. Partygoers enjoyed a delicious meal of meats, salads, and desserts in the festive clubhouse decorated with beautiful tables and Christmas lights. In lieu of gifts for one another, attendees brought gifts of hats, mittens, socks, neck scarves, and other items designed for the comfort and warmth of local nursing home residents.
