Pierian Study Club holds April meeting

The Pierian Study Club met April 12, 2018 at the Three Sister's Ranch rental owned by Celia Bell and family. The rock ranch house has been decorated by Celia with beautiful touches of Southwest art and the tank that is seen at the front of the house compliments the entire scenic view and gives one a sense of serenity.

Other members present were: Anita Adams, Connie Adams, Donna Baker, Loy Nell Behrens, Gail Brunner, Barbara Gilger, Kathleen Hawkins, Gale Ivy, Jeri Jones, Cherry Kay Lange, Shelly Mahan, Ann McElroy, Lynn McHenry, Kay Nettleship, Patty Shaw, Sandy Smith, Audrey Smith, Martha Leigh Whitten, Cissy Williams, Anna Wilson, Bebe Bagley, and Vickie Stevenson.

Local Club funds two Scholarships

The San Saba Garden Club is funding two new scholarships for fortunate graduating San Saba High School Seniors this spring.

The Club, which has historically always helped with scholarships given by the Texas District V Garden Clubs, will fund two special San Saba scholarships this year. The San Saba community through its support of the Garden Club and its Pumpkin Sale in the fall.

The Hunter Stew in November, a garage sale in the spring and other projects like the current Plant Sale, has allowed the Club to be able to fund two scholarships this spring and more possible scholarships in the future.

San Saba ISD School Board recognized students and teachers on Monday, April 9 at the regular school board meeting

San Saba Middle School GT students that participated the Robotic Competition were recognized. This is the first year that robotic students participated from the San Saba Middle School and three students advanced to the state competition. Students recognized were: John Spence, Makayla Saldivar and Jaedah Lambert (not pictured). Mrs. Pulatie guided these projects and the district is very proud of the work these students have displayed!

San Saba High School had many students recognized. Mrs. Snyatzke’s art class participated in VASE (Visual Art Student Event): Eight students participated in the event: Wayne Tucker (pictured), Emaleigh Mack, Analyn Bohensky, Hanna Hill, Brenden Childers By Michael Bohensky, SSISD School Superintendent San Saba ISD School Board recognized students and teachers on Monday, April 9 at the regular school board meeting (pictured), Minerva Patino, Eleu Davila (pictured).

Democrat candidate for U.S. Senate, Beto O’Rourke, held a public town hall at Pepperbelly’s in San Saba on Friday, April 6 and spoke to a packed crowd.

Richland Springs' One Act Play competes at Area, March 31st

The Richland Springs' One Act Play - "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" - competed in the Area contest in San Angelo at the ASU Auditorium on March 31st. Richland Springs was named the alternate play to Regional.

Schools advancing were from Cross Plains with "The Miracle Worker"; Aspermont with "The Beggar's Opera,"; and Water Valley with "The Rimers of Eldritch." Richland Springs had less points than Water Valley, but according to the rule of "majority or better," Water Valley advanced. One of the judges gave Richland Springs 2nd Place and said that it was one of the best 1A plays she had seen.

San Saba Garden Club racks up District V Awards

On Wednesday, March 18th, San Saba Garden Club members, Rhonda Killion, Mona McMahan, Trish Fullerton, Nancy Van Etten, Janice Bates, Sherie Clarkson, and Anne Vincent attended the District V Garden Club Spring Convention held at the Georgetown San Gabriel Park Community Center.

Miss Diamondback Queen will receive a $2,000.00 scholarship. The Queen contest is sponsored by Goodson Surveyors of Lampasas.

San Saba School Spotlights

On Monday, March 19, 2018 the San Saba ISD School Board convened. Savannah Johnson was recognized for her 7th place finish at the State Powerlifting meet. San Saba ISD has two more students traveling to state competitions in the next few weeks, Aungelique Golding in FFCLA and Rainey Wilson in V.A.S.E. Students are involved in many activities during this spring!

The San Saba High School Academic UIL team placed third overall and will send many students to the Regional Competition in Corpus Christi on April 13-14.

Hill Country Cattlewomen Mother's Day Contest announcement

The Hill Country Cattlewomen (HCCW) is holding a Mother's Day Contest. The prize will go to a deserving Mom for Mother's Day.

All contest entrants, as well as their nominated Moms, must be from one of Hill Country Cattlewomen's 14 eligible counties. The 14 counties include the following: Bexar, Bandera, Edwards, Kerr, Kendall, Blanco, Gillespie, Kimble, Mason, Llano, Menard, McCulloch, Real and San Saba.

Friends of Colorado Bend State Park to host annual Trail’s Day Event Saturday, March 24, 2018

The Friends of Colorado Bend State Park are hosting their Annual Trail’s Day event on Saturday, March 24, 2018. Events include Dutch Oven Cooking, Sun & Star Party, Trial Maintenance, Archery, Gorman Falls Guided Tours, Outdoor Photography by John Keefer, and Bluegrass Jam & Music.

The Friends of Colorado Bend State Park is a 501(c)3 organization and large donations are tax deductible. Among other things, the Friends group has provided funds for the materials for the bridges and overlook deck as well as needed materials and equipment for the park such as a shredder, helmets for cave tours, port-a-pots, shelters over picnic tables when large trees died in drought, a TV for the office to show current events and a slide show, emergency repair to the front gate, custom frames for high quality pictures that were donated to the park and an ice cream freezer for concessions. A donation box is located inside the office.
