It’s a great day to be a Dillo! Welcome to the new normal. San Saba ISD is functioning well. Our teachers and staff have done so much in such a short amount of time. I have never been prouder of how our team has come together to make sure our students are receiving the best quality education under the circumstances. We were criticized by some folks in Austin last week for doing a modified opening to get information and resources to our students. Some of those same folks are now praising us for our initiative in acting quickly to equip our students. Many districts who had hoped to wait out the virus are now facing the dilemma of getting resources to their students. It is an amazing thing to see kids at home talking with their teachers via the internet and doing real homework. I hope all our parents have a new appreciation for what our teachers do every day. I cannot begin to express how thankful I am for our administrators, Mrs. Brenda Martinez, Dr. Scott Snyder, Ms. Denise Deckard and Mr. Joshua Ham, have worked tirelessly to prepare our teachers for a fruit basket upset of education. Our tech director, Mr. Tim Cooper and his team, have worked to make sure our technology is working, and that teachers and students know how to use it. Our school counselors, Mrs. Leanne Johnson, Mrs. Monica Shahan and Mrs. Kathryn Robertson, are making sure our student’s emotional and mental health needs are being addressed with all the stress of change. Mrs. Diane Wood and the cafeteria staff are absolute heroes providing 2 meals a day for students who need food. Mr. Alton Tinney, our head of transportation, has been coordinating meal deliveries along with our Athletic Director, Coach Andreas Aguirre, to make sure none of our students go hungry. Our Central Office and support staff, Mr. Buck Martin, Mrs. Machelle Perry and Mrs. Tayler Barrier, are making sure the bills are paid and the paperwork is filed so that our district is getting full credit for the efforts we are making. Mr. Kenneth Groomes is supervising our custodial and maintenance staff to ensure our buildings will be ready when our students are allowed back. Your board of trustees, Mr. Kevin Shahan, Mrs. Misty Everett, Mr. Jeffrey Osborne, Mr. Tim Sebastion, Mr. Stuart Isham, Mr. Jake Lackey and Mrs. Kristen Nelson, support a resolution ensuring our staff would continue to be paid. I wish I could name every staff person, but these are your leaders. They have not paid attention to the clock or what day of the week it is, but instead focus on what is best for kids. San Saba Community, you can be proud of your school. Go Dillos!!!
