In a season that will be remembered for how it ended, MOE’s 5th/6th grade girls basketball team made program history in it’s shortened season. What looked like would be a rebuilding year, it started out by MOE winning the first three tournaments of the season. On Saturday, January 25, MOE traveled to Burnet, Texas, to defend their 2019 “Heart of Texas” tournament championship from a year ago. MOE defeated Florence and tournament host Burnet to advance to the championship game, where they defeated Lago Vista, 39- 9, to claim the 2020 “Heart of Texas” basketball tournament championship. With the championship win, MOE picked up the 900th win and the121st tournament championship for the program which started in 2004.

On Saturday, February 15, MOE traveled to Llano, Texas, to take part in the 2020 Llano Lady Jacket Basketball Tournament. MOE had wins over Florence, Comanche and tournament host Llano, 29-5, to claim the tournament title.

Goldthwaite, Texas would be the next stop for MOE as they would take part in the 2020 Goldthwaite PTO Basketball Tournament on February 27 thru February 29. This would be the largest tournament of the season, as 11 teams would be battling for the tournament title. MOE would pick up wins over Comanche, Early, and tournament host Goldthwaite to advance to the tournament title game. The Brownwood Lady Lions would breeze through the other side of the bracket to set up a highly anticipated matchup between the top two teams in the tournament. MOE would jump out to an early 8-2 lead in the first quarter and never look back as they would roll to a 21-9 win and their third consecutive tournament championship of the young season. Expectations would be dampened as the rest of the season would be canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. MOE was in the process of continuing some impressive tournament winning streaks in the upcoming season. MOE would have been looking for their 12th consecutive San Saba Youth Basketball Tournament championship, their 4th consecutive South Taylor Shoot-Out championship (Jim Ned/Tuscola), and their 7th consecutive Magic 5 Star Summer Showcase championship (Southwestern University/Georgetown). MOE would have also been defending tournament championships won in 2019, which included the Brownwood Lady Lion Basketball Invitational, the San Angelo Hoops – End of Summer Basketball Tournament, and the Austin Lady Magic Basketball Invitational.
