Lady Dillos’ XC superb at regionals, will compete for 2A State Championship

The San Saba High School varsity cross country program made the trip to take part in the 2020 Class 2A Region IV Cross Country Championships on Tuesday, November 10, at Dugan Soccer & Track Stadium on the campus of Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and had some outstanding performances.

With 65 points as a team, the Lady Dillos placed third behind Shiner High School’s 53 points and District 29 rival Mason High School’s 60 points amongst a field of 14 Class 2A schools and qualified for the upcoming state meet.

Leading the way in the girls’ two-mile run for the Lady Dillos were the two standout seniors with top-10 finishes as Brighton Adams placed second with a stellar time of 12:55.14 and Courtnee Cash in seventh with a mark of 13:17.21.

Also earning a medal for San Saba was junior Nojemi Martinez with a great 12thplace finish at 13:27.21, while the Lady Dillos had four more girls finish in the top half of a field of 128 runners: freshman Jenna Lambert in 42nd place with a time of 14:29.71, sophomore Olivia Lusty in 45th at 14:43.79, sophomore Lexy Lamthor in 51st at 15:03.96, and Jadeah Lambert in 54th at 15:08.93.

As for the boys in the 5,200-meter run, although they finished in 10th as a team amongst 13 qualified schools with 206 points, the Dillos capped off an impressive season at regionals and have a bright future ahead in San Saba.

The freshman tandem of Julius Salinas and Justin Hernandez finished in the top 40 in a field of 100 runners as Salinas placed 24th with a time of 19:41.19 and Hernandez in 37th at 20:52.91.

Sophomore Noah Martinez and senior Levi Brown finished back-to-back in 61st and 62nd place with times of 22:18.86 and 22:25.24, respectively, while junior Adan Huron came in 85th with a mark of 25:11.97.

Up next for the Lady Dillos, their seven talented runners eye a Class 2A State Championship in the girls’ two-mile run at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, November 24, at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.
