Despite the twists and turns that the year 2020 has brought upon so many of us, Varsity football for small schools has managed to start the season as San Saba High School, Richland Springs High School, and Cherokee High School each look to secure another win this week.

San Saba (2-0) at Mason (0-2)

The Armadillos had to scratch and claw vs. the Eagles for all 48 minutes of regulation at Rogan Field on Friday, September 4th as San Saba pulled out a thrilling 24- 21 win over Rogers High School.

Following a very impressive 56-14 beatdown at home vs. Eldorado High School on August 28th to open the 2020 season, the 2A Dillos had their work cut out for them against 3A foe Rogers that came down to the final seconds.

After the Dillos got a lastsecond field goal vs. Rogers to improve to 2-0, they hit the road for the first time this season against a hungry Mason High School Punchers squad that has struggled on offense and with injuries to key players on both sides of the ball.

For their stellar play to start the season, San Saba is now ranked as the No. 6 2A Division I team in the state of Texas entering this Friday night’s Mason contest.

Richland Springs (1-0) at Crowell (1-0)

The six-man juggernaut Richland Springs High School Coyotes did their thing in a 55-8 victory over the Austin Royals HomeSchool squad.

The Coyotes, who were originally supposed to play the New Braunfels Christian Academy prior to the alterations to the UIL guidelines, will travel to take on Crowell High School this Friday night.

Cherokee (1-1) vs. Sidney (2-0)

The six-man Indians, who finished with a 2-8 record last season, started 2020 with a resounding 57-12 victory vs. Buckholts High School on August 28th in their season opener against the Badgers.

Cherokee then suffered a 45- 12 road loss to the Lometa High School Hornets and will look to bounce back on Friday, September 11th at home vs. the Sidney High School Eagles.
