Richland Springs ISD students returned to school for the 2020-2021 school year on August 7th. It has been a good start so far for the new school year. Week two of the 2020-2021 school year is history.

Enrollment is at 112 students. All students returned for faceto-face instruction, except for three students whose parents chose asynchronous instruction. Face-to-Face instruction with the teacher and social interaction in the classroom is the preferred method of instruction for educating our students. What we have all learned during this pandemic is the ability to adapt to change. The only thing constant this year will be change. We are grateful to have a bit of normality return to the education process.

School routines are as normal as we can make them. Temperature scanning is routine. There were 12 active COVID cases in San Saba County last week, with no hospitalizations and no deaths. When a positive COVID case occurs in school, we follow strict guidelines and follow confidentiality requirements by law. We follow a flow chart provided by the Texas Education Agency. If a staff member or student tests positive, we notify any staff member and/or parents of students who were in close contact. School districts also follow guidelines for close contact and reporting. State Health Department personnel will assist with contact tracing that we do to help identify any close contacts to determine if isolation or quarantine is the best option.

Football is returning to Coyote Field this Friday night. A good Austin Royals team will again travel to Richland Springs. We will play a Junior High game before the Varsity game on September 4, 2020, starting at 5:30 p.m. Stadium seating will be limited at 50% capacity, and fans need to bring their face covering to the game. Please do not sit in a row marked with an X. We ask that you practice social distancing in regards to stadium seating, and we urge family groups to sit together.

It takes community support for students to excel in their efforts to achieve. We have great students, teachers and staff. 2020-2021 looks to be a great year! It takes everyone working together to achieve success. We all need to hear kind words in these stressful times!
