Mary Jane (Hamilton) Carter

Jane Carter, age 74, of San Saba, Texas, entered the Kingdom of Heaven on Monday, June 22, 2020, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Mary Jane (Hamilton) Carter was born on August 27, 1945, in Melbourne, Florida, to John and Josephine (Moore) Hamilton.

Raised in Matador, Texas, Jane was the youngest of four children and graduated from Matador High School in 1963. Jane pursued her passion for teaching at Texas Tech University where, in 1967, she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics Education.

While a student at Texas Tech, she met the love of her life, Carl Mack Carter, of San Saba, Texas. Carl and Jane were married in Matador, Texas, on July 6, 1968, and were excited to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary in 2018. Jane had the honor of teaching thousands of high school students

Jane had the honor of teaching thousands of high school students throughout her 28-year career as a Home Economics teacher. She will be fondly remembered by all those who were fortunate enough to learn from her wisdom and practicality of life lessons at Olton High School (1967-1968), Plainview High School (1968-1972), and San Saba High School (1985-2008). Not just a teacher of content, she was known for truly caring about the lives and welfare of her students, each one a special gift to her. Many years after leaving her class, her students are still impacted by the morals and life lessons she imparted.

As the sponsor for the local San Saba Chapter of Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), Jane continued to push the students of Family and Consumer Sciences “toward new horizons.” She was proud to lead three state-winning teams to three gold medal platforms at National FCCLA Competitions in Pennsylvania, California, and Florida. She found it especially rewarding when, by being elected to both Regional and State Officer positions, her students became the leaders of tomorrow.

Jane had a special place in her heart for the San Saba community, especially for those in need. She was a founding member of the San Saba Volunteer EMS Service where she served as a volunteer EMT for five years. She was a volunteer at Shared Blessings and could always be found organizing an event, tutoring a special child, renovating houses for the community, or being the friend that listens when you needed it the most.

Jane was an active warrior for Jesus Christ! Having accepted Jesus as her Savior in 1961 at the age of 14, she spent her life studying the Word, molding relationships, and discipling others to strengthen their walk with the Lord. As an active member of The Father’s House, she served in church leadership since about 1980. Dedicating her service and time to the church, her greatest love and gift was as a Bible teacher for many years. She truly believed that “at the end of life, knowing Jesus as your personal Savior is the only thing that matters.”

Jane is survived by her husband, Carl Mack Carter; one son, Scott M. Carter (Lubbock, TX), and wife, Tammy Y. Carter, and children: Daniel S. Carter and Nicole Y. Carter; one daughter, Mary Christi (Carter) Daniels, and husband, Todd M. Daniels, and children: Kara V. Daniels and Carter L. Daniels; two brothers: Dick Hamilton (Willow, AK) and wife, Patti Hamilton; and Harry Hamilton (Lubbock, TX) and wife, Ann Hamilton; and many treasured nieces and nephews.

Jane is preceded in death by parents, John and Josephine Hamilton; brother, Tom Hamilton; and grandson, William Daniels. A private graveside service was held on Saturday, June 27th with Brother Tom Brand officiating at the San Saba Cemetery. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 12, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at The Father's House in San Saba, Texas.
