Hazel was born April 27, 1919, to Andrew Jackson and Addie Sue Mobley Todd in Carlsbad, Eddy County, New Mexico. Her parents and both sets of grandparents had moved to New Mexico Territory in 1907 and filed on homesteads, five years before New Mexico became a state. Hazel had seven siblings. All of the children except Cleo, who was born in Floydada before the move to New Mexico, were born in New Mexico. The family moved back to Texas in 1920 and bought a farm in the Spring Creek community in San Saba County. Hazel attended grades 1-7 at Spring Creek, 8-9 at Locker, and 10-11 in Richland Springs, where she graduated.

Spring Creek was Hazel’s home until she married William Henry Bogard on 8 July 1938. Their son Michael Henry, was born in Algerita, San Saba County, in 1941. They moved onto the Bogard farm, also in San Saba County, where son, Gregory Daryl and daughter Rebecca, were born. Hazel spent many hours working in the family’s turkey hatchingegg business. They lived there until William’s death June 25, 1976. Hazel built a house in San Saba and lived there until she moved to independent living in Tyler in 2005. Five years later, she moved to Bois d’Arc Ranch west of Junction. She lived there five years before moving back to Tyler. She died January 2, 2021 in Tyler, Smith County, Texas, at the home of her daughter.
