Alvin Jay Pavey

Alvin Jay Pavey passed away peacefully at his home in San Saba, Texas, on May 1, 2020, after a brave battle with cancer. He was surrounded by many of those he loved so much. Alvin was born at home, midnight, February 2, 1945, in Lampasas to parents, Jay Pavey and Minnie Welch. He was a gifted guitarist who enjoyed sharing his music. For years he visited area nursing homes to play gospel music for the residents. His talents were also heard at the Gatesville Country Hall of Fame. Alvin loved old country music. He had a deep sense of joy playing gospel songs that projected his Faith in the Lord. He was a kind and bold witness of that Faith to his family and to most anyone he met.

He was a great San Saba citizen. Weekend diners at Young’s BBQ in San Saba often enjoyed his radiant personality and guitar music. As a fifteen-year retired City Employee, he was well known and respected. Alvin pulled into town the suspension bridge, which now sits at San Saba City Park. He and his wife, Brenda, were married March 6, 2009, under the canopy of San Saba’s famous, historic Wedding Oak Tree. Both of them were baptized in the San Saba River, though at different times.

Alvin is survived by his devoted wife, Brenda Jean Pavey; son, Ray Pavey; and daughter, Virginia Bunting and husband, Shaun. He is also survived by two grandchildren, several adopted grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Bonnie Lou West and Vera Inez Welch; and his brother, Kenneth Pavey.

A Memorial Service will be at his residence on Saturday, May 16, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at 782 CR 110, San Saba, Texas, 76877. Blaylock Funeral Home of San Saba is in charge of the arrangements.
