A Word from Wayne

It’s a great day to be a Dillo! Things are moving fast here in San Saba as we get ready for the 2020-2021 school year. If you get on our school website, you can view our “Back to School Plan.” It is about 30 pages long, and that is the condensed version. Each campus will also have certain protocols to follow. The state has given us more guidelines and regulations than a stray dog has fleas. Sports will have its own set of guidelines to follow, and now we must tackle how to do ticket sales at 50 % capacity including marching band, cheerleaders, drill team and parents. We are doing what is best for the kids first and then everybody else.

We are trying to set-up live streaming and other options, and we have to work with the other districts and their guest stadium capacities, too. There are a lot of logistics to consider, and not everyone will be pleased. But we are making the effort to accommodate as many people as we can. Our goal is to get us back to educating kids.

The one regulation that has been the easiest, cheapest and simplest rule to follow is regarding face coverings. I have received some out right angry comments regarding masks or face coverings. Face coverings can be anything from a bandana to a welding hood (please don’t wear a welding hood, but if the hood fits…), but face coverings are a requirement. Yes, kids 10 and under do not have to wear a mask anywhere in the state. Some counties are exempt from face coverings, but we are not. We are going to wear face coverings at school and at athletic events, so find what works for you. All of the other regulations can be complicated, and there are plenty of other situations and logistics we are still figuring out. But face coverings should not be one of them. Nobody wants to be the mask police, but it is the easiest thing we have been asked to do for us to attempt getting back to normalcy.

Some of you may remember the old American Express commercials that said “American Express-Don’t leave home without it.” Now the new thing will be “Face Coverings, don’t leave home without ‘em.” GO DILLOS!
