The San Saba High School varsity powerlifting team had its opening meet of the season and had a few standout performers on Saturday, January 16, at the annual 2021 Dublin Invitational hosted by Dublin High School.

For the boys’ meet, San Saba was well represented as Landin Short was awarded the Boys’ Best Lifter for the heavyweight division.

Short, who competed in the 220-pound class, dominated his way to a first-place finish with a whopping 1,500 total pounds lifted: 550 on the squat, 370 on the bench press, and 380 pounds on the deadlift.

San Saba also had multiple lifters earn medals in other weight classes: Luis Ramirez in first place in the 165-pound class, Justin Hernandez in second place in the 114-pound class, Adan Huron in second place in the 132-pound class, and Cristian Ramirez in second place in the 275-pound class.

As for the girls, the Lady Dillos only entered four competitors, but two of them medaled.

San Saba 97-pound class entry Makinzey Saldivar was great and placed first, while Kynedi Isham medaled in second place in the girls’ 146-pound class.
