Tuesday, July 7th, will see the return of the San Saba County/Baylor Scott & White Blood Drive to the First Baptist Church at 208 W. Wallace Street. This Blood Drive begins with some changes that may become part of our new 'normal' thanks to COVID-19.

1. To begin with, it is imperative that you call 254-724-4376 or go online at BSWBlood.com and MAKE AN APPOINTMENT. Many of you, in the past, have just run by when you had time...well, that could become a little bit lengthy now because walk-ins can only be 'fit in' where there is space between appointments!

2. The time is now from 12 noon until 6:00 p.m. [instead of 2-6] because they will not be able to have as many people in the mobile unit as they used to!

3. When you get there, you can come to the 'registration' table and check in, but then you will go back to your vehicle and wait for a text or call when they are ready for you!

Now, some things haven't changed....you still need a photo I.D.; you still need to be 17 years old or older; you must weigh a minimum of 110 pounds; you should eat a good meal and drink lots of water or juice before and after donating; you should avoid alcoholic and caffeinated beverages for 12 hours before and after donating and you should be feeling well when you give blood [especially NOW]!

And, some of the FACTS are still the same...all donations made to the Baylor Scott & White Blood Center stay with patients within Central Texas; less than 10% is the percentage of the United States population that donates blood, and approximately 38% is eligible; two seconds is the amount of time that goes by before a new patient in the United States is in need of blood, and 100 units is the number of units of blood that can be required by ONE car accident victim for recovery.

Please take the time, right now, and call 254-724-4376 or go online at BSWBlood.com and MAKE AN APPOINTMENT...there's still room to help!!
