The Richland Springs Report

Goodness, it seems as if school starts earlier every year. Teachers are back in meetings this week and early next week; then kids are due on the 10th. Whatever happened to starting after Labor Day? I can hear the groans of students and teachers alike. I’m sure the ones who are most stressed are all those athletes who have had to do football practice. The coaches are bound to be guarding their athletes from this horrendous heat we are experiencing. I am glad I had a brief break from this heat in Costa Rica.

Please be aware that next Sunday there will be a Community Prayer Walk around our school at 7:00 p.m. Mrs. Dee Crump heads this event, and it has been a blessing to our little school for years. Everyone is welcome to attend and start the school year off on the right footing. Mr. Womack has posted on the school page that the school will be paying for supplies again this year. There are also backpacks available for lower elementary that were donated by local church members. Meet the teachers night will be August 9th from 6-7:30 p.m.

While we’re praying for the school, we need to send up serious prayers for rain in our area. Our firefighters are being kept busy. I noticed Richland Springs trash pickup will be earlier in the morning to relieve our city staff. All outside activities need to be carefully monitored to protect plants, animals, and people.

We had the service for Russell’s sister Bobbie last Friday. We did not have a graveside ceremony due to the heat. It was a gentle celebration of a lady who gave generously of herself to many people. She used her 93 years well, and I’m sure she was happy to leave this earthly body behind. Funerals are hardest for the ones left behind. She will be missed, but we know where she has gone. I think we could all easily sing Blessed Assurance with peace in our hearts.

Sandy Reed has started a community single ladies fellowship every other Thursday, 2:00 p.m. at Shiloh for fun and fellowship. The next men’s prayer breakfast will be August 12th, 7:00 a.m. at the Tabernacle.

The prayer list is long, and we have had to watch the passing of many friends and relatives. Please continue to pray for our sick, shut-ins, and elderly. This heat is taxing on those who are not well. The latest report on Jeremy Young is that he is doing a little better. Johnny Reeves has come through his surgery well, and he and Lynn are waiting on the doctors to tell them how to proceed. Mondo asked for prayers for the Eastland officer who was shot in the line of duty. Our prayers are for all our law enforcement officers. Our fire departments are being stretched with the increase in wildfires. Please uphold the burn ban and watch your farm equipment.

Please pray for our government, our President, and cooperation in our Congress. I hope to see many of you at the prayer walk next Sunday. Most of all, pray for our precious troops and their families.
