Mr. and Mrs. Billy Mac Perry of Cherokee have announced the birth of a son, William Randall, seven pounds and four ounces, born July 3 at the San Saba Memorial Hospital. This is the couples' first child. Mrs. Perry is the former Shirley Hardy.

Merchant of the Week Award goes to Sterner Dry Goods for displaying the flag on the Nations' Birthday, Friday. This will be the last "fourth" to fly the flag with 48 stars – next year gives it 49, one for Alaska.

Plans for the playground area in Mill Pond Park are underway, announced Mrs. Charles Chrane, secretary-treasurer of the Park Board. Mrs. Chrane states that the circular sand box in the nursery area is near completion. The baseball diamond has been cleared and the tennis courts, three of them, are ready for the topping.

Miss Jane Felts, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. H. V. Felts, will leave Sunday, July 13, to join a Traveling English Workshop in connection with Texas Women's University.

The newly constructed building of Tommie P. and Paul Golding recently was accepted by the U. S. Post Office Department and San Saba soon will have a new Post Office, announced W. E. (Salty) Bryant, Postmaster, this week.

Ever since the July 4th at Cherokee when Harold Johanson prayed for rain and over 12 inches fell that night putting Cherokee Creek on one of its biggest rampages in some time, residents have kindly chided him to be a little more careful when he includes rain in his prayers. Last Tuesday, July 4th, Johanson acknowledged the comments and added, "but there was one fellow who told him to go ahead and pray like he did the first time because he could use the rain-all 12 inches of it if he had too." It's still dry though.

Then there was the city fellow visiting the country who alledgedly said... "when walking through a field of grasshoppers be sure to keep your mouth shut."

Members and prospective members of the Armadillo pep squad are urged to attend an organizational meeting. Naomi Gomez, president, who called the meeting, says there will be a discussion of new uniforms for the group. Also to be discussed are plans for the coming football season, including new ideas for signs and other spirit building methods.

Several from here attended the Spring Ho celebration in Lampasas during the weekend.

Mrs. Elsie Millican left June 12 to join Mrs. Billie Phillips, Paula and Anna, of Mason for a three-week vacation to Honolulu and other parts of Hawaii.

Marilyn Kay Brister, 20-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jackie Brister of Bend, has been admitted to Texas A & M University College of Medicine for the fall semester. She is one of 32 students selected for the second class of the state's newest medical school.
