Have you bought that Liberty Bond yet? If not, why not? Can't you spare Uncle Sam at least $50.00 to save our own freedom and wellbeing? Remember you do not give any money to Uncle Sam when you buy a Liberty Bond you only lend it to him for a time, and he pays you for the use of it. If you persist in refusing to lend your spare money to Uncle Sam he may have to force to come across in the way of war taxes. See the point? For thirty days from Saturday April 6th you have an opportunity to buy Liberty Bonds.

COLD CREEK - Messers Homer Kuykendall and Earl Moore made a business trip to San Saba last Tuesday. Mr. Bill Wyckoff and daughter, Miss Mary were business visitors in Llano Thursday. The school was suspended last Tuesday for a few days, because the teacher, Miss Daisy Burke, was called home to see her brother, Mr. Graves Burke who had been in Great Lakes, Ill. in the Naval Training Station.

Wednesday afternoon the Senior girls gave a surprise party for their classmate, Miss Floy Farnsworth, the occasion being her nineteenth birthday. The girls drove up to Miss Farnsworth's boarding place, in Miss Melba Wilcox's car, which was beautifully decorated in the Senior colors, gold and white. A big "19" was placed on the front of the car. The girls then drove to the creek, where they spent the remainder of the afternoon. About 6:30 a sumptuous supper was spread.

Ladies get your heads together and study the political situation. Surprise these men by showing them what a 20th century woman, who has been in bondage for centuries is able to do. Running the affairs of a county or state is a whole lot like running a household where there are eight or ten children. Everything must be in place, and a place for everything. Get busy and sweep out the corners and look behind the door. If you find anything offensive, do not be afraid to express your opinion, for we are citizens now, and have escaped the exconvict, lunatic and minor class. We need more women in public office. Every county's officials should be represented equally divided. And then we will soon see results.

In this time of unrest and turmoil of the world, we pause to give thanks to the Lord for creating this beautiful Hill Country and for giving our ancestors the foresight and good sense to stop their wanderings and put their roots down in this section so we could be born here. We are proud and thankful for our heritage far away from the crowded cities with their unrest and slums. I for one am glad that industry has passed us by and hope it continues to do so. Let us keep a quiet place for the weary to rest in for awhile. –Lemon Squeezer II.

FOLLOW THE PIED PIPER–who was none other than Jack W. Owen leading the 20- car motorcade of tourists on the scenic wonder of San Saba county. Mother Nature had on her best bib and tucker. Scenes varied from rolling hills, farm lands, rugged rocks and rills, dotted with yucca plants in bloom. Long-stemmed bluebonnets sprung up in most unexpected places, along the tourists trail traveled Sunday.

Owners of business buildings, even though they are rented to others, are urged to take pride in the city by making needed repairs or painting. We, the people, are the city; the appearance of the city reflects on its residents. Let’s do our part in helping to beautify it and making it attractive to ourselves and our visitors. On eyesores, such as vacant lots, buildings in need of repairs and paint, junk and debris scattered about the lots, which owners refuse to clean up or to have cleaned, we would suggest that a sign be erected at each of these places, indicting the name of the property owner, so they can bear the brunt of the unsightly property and not let it reflect on others of the town Plans have been completed with the management of the Palace Theater to present in person, MARK SCOTT-DICKY TREADWAY & THE WESTERN KINGS for two big stage shows Friday, April 12th. This group played a stage show here October of last year to a sell out crowd at the School Auditorium. Since then, hundreds of requests have come in to bring them back again. The show was moved to the Palace Theatre stage for better sound and better seating arrangements.
