The Richland Springs Report

Greetings from friendly Canada. This is Canada's 150th birthday. There are celebrations taking place in every community around the country. It is a marvelous time to be visiting. Climate warming has not struck here, definitely climate change is in effect. They are having a rainy and cool summer, just like our summer in Texas, but dropped by abut 20 degrees. I actually slept with a blanket last night. The cooler weather does not hurt the fishing. My brother Jim caught a nice three pound small mouth bass yesterday. I caught a big rock and lost my worm. Oh well, better luck next time.

San Saba Middle School students tour Washington, D.C.

By Monica Shahan

Nineteen San Saba Middle School students and seven adults traveled to Washington, D.C. last weekend to connect with our nation's history and culture through museums, monuments and memorials. We began our adventure by touring the following Smithsonians: The National Air and Space Museum, the National Museum of Natural History, and The National Museum of American Art. The evening concluded with a guided sightseeing tour of the WWII Memorial, Washington Monument, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, and the Korean War Veterans Memorial.

Day two proved to be just as memorable as day one! We began the day with a stop at the United States Marine Corps War Memorial before heading into Arlington National Cemetery. We witnessed the awe-inspiring Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and learned of many of our nation's heroes while walking the hallowed grounds.
