7th Grade Dillos Boys Basketball Report

By Coach Mark Freeman

The 7th Grade Dillos Boys basketball team practiced over the winter break and played a pick up game with Brady on the 19th of December. We were out matched physically and never were able to handle their center. I was proud of us for picking on a larger school and trying out best. We employed a full court man defense and crawled back in the game but Brady pulled away in the end. Brady won by 14. In the end after having so many one sided games it was good for us to be reminded that we had a lot of work to do to finish out the year and that we couldn’t rest on our laurels.

We played the Mason Punchers when we returned from Winter Break and came out like furies. We employed our 1-2-2 press for the first time of the year. Mason was overwhelmed – they had only 3 points at half time. We played the bench for the second half of the game and won easily by 20. Final Score: San Saba 32 Mason 12.

Lady Dillo Basketball Report

By Alicia Cummings

The Lady Dillos have had an exciting couple of weeks of basketball starting with the Anson Tournament over Christmas break. This was a very competitive tournament and it gave us an opportunity to play some teams that we don’t get to see very often. We opened the tournament against Paducah. We got off to a slow start and were down at halftime but the Lady Dillos fought back and came away with a 35-27 victory.

The Lady Indians fell behind by one point in the second quarter. They still lagged just a tad behind in the third quarter with a score of 29-27 in favor of Brookesmith. However, the Lady Indians fought hard and managed to pull ahead in the last quarter ending the game with a narrow lead of 35-33. Congrats, ladies!

Armadillo Basketball Report

By Ron Welch

The Armadillo basketball team got back into the swing of things after a 6-day layoff for the Christmas Holidays. On our first day we could play after the break, the Armadillos played in the May Tournament on Dec. 27-29.

Our first matchup of the tournament was against May. We had played them earlier this season. Being our first day back in basketball and not having any practices due to UIL rules, you never know what to expect from your team. We didn’t play very well offensively or defensively and May ended up handling us fairly well.

In the second round of the tournament, we played Lometa. We had faced Lometa twice earlier in the season. They had beaten us both times. Our kids responded much better this game.
