News From Cherokee ISD

The new school year has officially begun here at Cherokee ISD. We are looking forward to an amazing year. We have many new faces on staff. In the elementary, we welcome Meghan Blackford as our new kindergarten teacher. In junior high we welcome Kris Mund as our science and art teacher. She will also be teaching 8th grade ELA. Brad Repass will be teaching junior high math. In high school we welcome Waymon Holland as our US history teacher, Rhett Moore as our ag teacher, Marcy Spears as our English teacher, and Zack White as our business teacher. We are also happy to have Jeri Moore and Alan Berrio as paraprofessionals and Deborah Summerskill as our technology teacher and assistant. Our new coaches are Zack White, Brad Repass, Waymon Holland, and Alan Berrio. Good luck this year to all of our new staff! We are glad to have each and every one of you.

Local Tennis Association opens 2018 season with exciting news

The San Saba Tennis Association (SSTA) is starting the 2018 tennis season with some very exciting news. Mindy Sebastian, President of the Association, along with Ralph Cox, a San Saba tennis icon, are forming a tennis league for all interested tennis players. Players will meet at the tennis courts each Sunday afternoon at 6:00 p.m. type of play will be determined by those in attendance. Instruction and coaching may also be available.

The San Saba Armadillo Experience

On a recent trip to New York, my youngest daughter wanted to go through NFL Experience. We were able to pick our favorite team and then go through the “Experience.” There have been many negative factors associated with the NFL over the past year; however, when we entered the experience, only the positive aspects were presented.

Richland Springs graduates receive $43,850 in scholarships

Four-time Magic 5 Star Summer Showcase defending Champs

San Saba 5th/6th JLD (47-9) knocked off top rated Katy Rebels, 28-19, in the 6th Grade Girls Division of the 2018 Magic 5 Star Summer Showcase basketball tournament held on Saturday June 23rd at the Austin Sports Center in Cedar Park, Texas, to capture their fourth Magic 5 Star Summer Showcase 6th Grade Girls Division Championship in a row.

JLD won 6th Grade Girls division titles in 2015, 2016, 2017 and now 2018. JLD has captured six of the last seven 6th Grade Girls Division Magic 5 Star Summer Showcase tournament championships which started in 2012. In the last four championship games, JLD defeated Liberty Hill Swoosh 29-9 in 2015, Austin Lady Magic 35-34 in 2016, and Austin Wildcats 67-7 in 2017.

7th/8th JLD defend Title at 2018 Magic 5 Star Summer Showcase

San Saba 7th/8th JLD (19-8) defended their 2017 Magic 5 Star Summer Showcase championship title by capturing first place in the 2018 Magic 5 Star Summer Showcase basketball tournament held on Saturday, June 23rd, at the Austin Sports Center in Cedar Park, Texas. JLD won the 2017 championship by defeating LaGrange 39-7.

Dr. Snyder recognized as TASSP Region 15 Principal of the Year

It was announced this week that Dr. Snyder was recognized at the Region 15 TASSP High School Principal of the year! Congratulations to Dr. Snyder for being recognized! This is a great accomplishment for Dr. Scott Snyder. Dr. Snyder has been principal at San Saba High School for three years.
