San Saba Dillos roll in season opener

The San Saba Armadillos made a statement at Rogan Field last Friday night. A strong running game combined with a tough defense proved too much for the Johnson City Eagles.

San Saba won the toss and elected to receive the ball. The Eagles kicked deep to the left side where O’Keefe was waiting on the 15-yard line. A45-yard return set the Dillos up 1st and 10 at the Johnson City 45. The opening drive of the 2019 season started with the Dillos running game.

TxDOT offers tips to help keep schoolchildren safe

As millions of Texas children return to school this month, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) reminds motorists and parents to take precautions to prevent traffic crashes and injuries in and around school buses.

Last year, there were 765 traffic crashes in Texas school zones, resulting in 1 death and 15 serious injuries. The most common causes for these crashes were failure to control speed, driver inattention, and failure to yield the right of way, when turning left to a private drive or at a stop sign.

Back-to-School Health Check List

August marks back-toschool season, an ideal time for parents to help improve their children’s health. Before schedules become packed with classes, homework and extracurricular activities, here’s a back-to-school “health checklist” to help give children a better chance to succeed inside and outside the classroom:

Get a Comprehensive Eye Exam

About 80 percent of what children learn is through their eyes. With that in mind, a child’s first comprehensive eye exam should occur before age 1, again at age 3 and before entering school.[1] If no vision issues are detected, school-aged children should have an exam at least once every two years. Also, a school’s vision screening is not a substitute for a comprehensive eye exam, as screenings can miss conditions such as poor eye alignment, focusing issues and farsightedness.
