Lady Dillo Basketball Report

The Lady Dillos got their week started when they traveled to Comanche to face the Lady Maidens. From the opening tip off, the Lady Dillos overwhelmed Comanche with their defensive pressure. They held a 17-0 lead after the 1st quarter and would never look back. The Lady Dillos defeated Comanche by a final score of 71-16.

The Lady Dillos then traveled to Coleman on Thursday morning to play a tough Cisco team in the opening round of the Coleman tournament. We knew that Cisco had a great team and would test us for 32 minutes.

Cisco, in many ways, is very similar to us. They have great defensive pressure and have a lot of weapons to hurt you offensively. They also push the ball really well in transition.

Cisco came out and took an early six-point lead in the 1st quarter. Both teams would go back and forth trading baskets as the game went on, but the Lady Dillos could never really cut into their lead. Cisco went on to defeat the Lady Dillos by a score of 46-53.

Coyotes can’t keep pace with Oakwood

Our Richland Springs Coyotes finish the season (11-2) after falling to Oakwood in the State Quarterfinals this past Friday night by a score of (66-56).

The Oakwood Panthers must have guzzled jet fuel instead of Gatorade before the game! They were hitting on all cylinders and flying on both sides of the ball. Despite some adversity, our Coyotes never gave up and keep chipping away as long as they could. There were a couple of times our young Coyotes could have folded their tent and headed west, but they were true to our school motto, “Coyotes Fight, Never Die.”

Hats off to Oakwood and we wish them well moving forward.

Lady Dillo Basketball Report

What an exciting time for San Saba High School and Armadillo nation! It is a great time to be a Dillo and we are so excited about the success of our student-athletes. They truly are special kids.

To start the week for the Lady Dillos, they hosted the Lady Dragons of Bangs. Bangs is a very physical team and we knew we would be tested down low. They had a strong post and we knew we would need to battle in the post and get lots of pressure on the ball. The first half was fairly even as the Lady Dillos held a 20-15 lead at halftime. However, in the 2nd half, the Lady Dillos defensive pressure overwhelmed Bangs as we went on a 25-2 run in the 3rd quarter. The Lady Dillos would hold Bangs to just 11 points in the 2nd half and eventually defeat the Lady Dragons by a final score of 57-26.

Coyote Pride

The Thanksgiving holidays are history. Everyone has returned to school a few pounds heavier from all the turkey and dressing and good desserts. It was a busy Thanksgiving weekend as the Coyotes played in the Regional playoff game at Gatesville Stadium on Friday night. Diehard fans showed up early see the Coyotes play a good Calvert team. The Coyotes' season continues to the Quarterfinals Round of the playoffs with a 60-47 win over the Calvert Trojans. Congrats to the varsity team and coaches as they prepare for Oakwood. This is a busy time, as basketball continues for junior high and high school students. Only three weeks of school remain before the first semester ends.

Lady Dillo Basketball Report

The Lady Dillos’ basketball season is going strong as they picked up three more wins before the Thanksgiving break. Up first, the Lady Coyotes of Richland Springs visited Armadillo Arena. The Lady Dillos played tough defense and made it difficult for Richland to find any type of rhythm on offense. Offensively, the Lady Dillos were able to find holes in their zone and attack. The Lady Dillos defeated Richland by a final score of 55-13.

Next, the Lady Dillos hosted the Lometa Lady Hornets. From the beginning, the Lady Dillos were able to use their speed and push the ball in transition. This led to some easy scoring opportunities. The Lady Dillos full court pressure also caused several turnovers for Lometa. The Lady Dillos defeated the Lady Hornets 73-14.

Coyotes win a slug fest with Calvert

Article Image Alt Text

This past Friday’s Regional game was a very tough, hard hitting, and physical game for both the Coyotes and Trojans. Ultimately, it did come down to a rock fight and our Coyotes had a few more rocks than Calvert did in the end. Coyotes won the battle (60-47).

Calvert was Calvert. They were fast, quick, and never gave up. Our Coyotes fought through a lot of adversity and when the momentum swung toward the Trojans, our Coyotes kept churning and churning away until they reeled it back in.

A handful of Coyotes probably wasn’t expecting to play, but because of a couple injuries along the way, they were thrown in the spotlight. They all did a great job on the big stage under the bright lights.

Coyotes win big, now face Calvert....AGAIN!

Article Image Alt Text

Our Richland Springs Coyotes made short work of the Brookesmith Mustangs this past Friday night in Zephyr at the Bi-District game, winning 53-6.

Our young Coyotes looked very solid and crisp with only a handful of mistakes that will need to be corrected before this Friday.

Our Coyotes started the game off with a crashing BANG! The slobber knocker hit by TJ Grant jarred the ball loose and the onside kick was recovered by our Coyotes. Our Coyotes never looked back! They reeled off 32 points in the 1st quarter and 21 in the 2nd quarter. The game reached the mercy rule at the half.

Matthew Rigdon (So) was 5-6 for 103 yds passing and 2 TD’s.
