San Saba Middle School fifth graders compete in Garden Club Poetry Contest

San Saba Middle School fifth graders recently competed in a Poetry Contest offered by the San Saba Garden Club. After studying a unit on poetry in Mrs. Terri Ellis’s ELA class, the San Saba Middle School students composed “Butterflies, Bees and Me” poems for the 2016 local and District V contest. Winning entries at District level will move on up to the Texas State Garden Club contest, then on to Regional and National Poetry Contests. National Garden Clubs’ Poetry Contest and theme of “Butterflies, Bees, and Me” is to encourage students to express their love of nature and concern for their environment through the expression of poetry.

News From Cherokee ISD

By Kari Owen

The football team had a bit of a rough week as they took on the reigning state champions, the Richland Springs Coyotes. The Indians fought a good fight and did not give up! There’s not a lot to report on since the Coyotes did not allow us to score any touchdowns and we were unable to hold them back. The game was called at halftime due to the 45 point rule and the Indians were unable to put any numbers on the scoreboard. We ended the game with only 5 players but we should have 7 this week as the Indians take on the Iredell Dragons in Hamilton this Friday night. Come on out to Hamilton and support your Indians in the first round of the playoffs!
