Catalina Comparini Luna

Mrs. Catalina C. Luna age 92 passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 in Round Rock, Texas. Mrs. Luna born in Guatemala City, C.A. on January 11, 1926 resided in San Antonio, TX for 34 yrs, then Richland Springs, TX for 37 yrs. She was a loving wife and mother of seven children who worked unceasingly until 88 yrs of age by giving unselfish service to family, relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death comby her husband, Francisco E. Luna of 55 years of marriage; her grandsons, Aaron Christopher Luna, Brandon Anthony Luna, Kent Forrest Dudley II, Richard Devane Wallace; and great grandson, Casey Ryan Ramirez. She is survived by her children: Charles (Patricia) Luna, Mary Louise (Frank) Hollen, Frank (Susan) Luna, Johnny (Eileen) Luna, Lucille (Kent) Dudley, David (Laney) Luna and Salvador (Robyn) Luna; fifteen grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren and eleven great great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Salvador Comparini and spouse Nydia.

David Joe Pierce

David Joe Pierce, 70 of San Saba, Texas passed away January 10, 2018 in Llano, Texas. Memorial services will be held at the San Saba Civic Center on January 28, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. Joe was born on March 9, 1947 in San Saba, Texas to Berry Pierce Sr. and Josie Young Pierce. Joe married Linda Darlene Peel on May 10, 1965 and had five children. Survivors include, daughters, Reta Hunt and Melvin, Sherry Berryhill and Tim; sons, Tommy Pierce, Pat Pierce and Paula, Jerry Pierce and Shauna; brothers, Bobbie Cordell and Samantha, Berry Pierce Jr. and Connie, Norman Pierce and Ann; grandchildren, Stefan Hunt and Kim, Sonni Hunt, Tabitha Berryhill, Sabrina Gage and Ryan, Billy Berryhill and Anabel, Justin Pierce, Wade Pierce, Destiny Pierce, Forrest Pierce; twelve great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. Joe is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, two sisters and one grandchild.

Cherry Simpson Grant

Ms. Cherry Simpson Grant of San Saba, 85, passed away on January 12, 2018, with her children by her side in Austin, Texas. A visitation was held Monday, January 15, 2018 at the Heritage Funeral Home in San Saba. Immediately following, family and friends laid Ms. Grant to rest during a grave side service at Llano City Cemetery. Cherry was born on April 25, 1932 in Brady, Texas. Her parents were Sam Houston Simpson and Carrie Vonn Simpson of Llano, Texas. She was raised in Llano, was a life-long member of the Lousy Leven, and lived throughout the state of Texas while raising her four children and working as an administrative professional. She retired from her career in Houston in the early 90s, and moved to San Saba where she lived for the past twenty-five years. While living in San Saba, she enjoyed working as a part time Office Assistant with Farmers Insurance until her late 70s.

Jay David Parr

Jay David Parr was born on March 13, 1942 in Houston, Texas to Jay David Parr Sr. and Edith Nordin Parr. He passed away on January 2, 2018, in Lakeway, Texas at the age of 75. Services were held at Cherokee Church of Christ on Friday, January 5, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. with interment at Restwood Memorial Park in Lake Jackson on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. Jay attended Brazosport High School where he met his wife of 54 years, Vicky Perry. They were married on May 5, 1961 and had two daughters, Jalyn and Stacey. As a young boy, Jay enjoyed hunting, basketball, and baseball. He loved the outdoors through his life. He worked for Dow Chemical in Freeport, Texas for over 30 years in processing computer engineering before retiring and moving to enjoy the beauty of the Texas hill country. He lived in both Kingsland and then Cherokee, Texas. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and hearing about their academic awards and achievements.

Bonnie Evans

Bonnie Evans, 87, of Elm Grove, Texas went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 in her home surrounded by loved ones. Bonnie was born on October 25, 1930 in Bowser, Texas to Edgar Johnson and May Burk Johnson. Bonnie married Junior Evans on October 1, 1950 in Elm Grove. Bonnie and Junior farmed and ranched their entire lives where Bonnie was known and loved for her cooking, sewing, flowers, and a willing gate opener when Junior needed one. Bonnie was a member of the First Baptist Church in Richland Springs where she also taught Sunday School for various classes. She was an active supporter of young people and Richland Springs ISD activities including the sports teams and drama department. Bonnie is survived by her daughter, Melissa Evans of Arlington, Texas; daughter-in-law Linda Evans of Brownwood, Texas; grandchildren, Nathan Evans of Austin, Texas and Emily Evans of Chicago, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.

Wilton D. Jackson

Funeral services for Wilton D. “Pilt” Jackson, age 96, of Rochelle will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 13, 2018 at the Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Richland Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends form 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, January 12, 2018. Mr. Jackson passed away January 5, 2018. Pilt was born November 16, 1921 to J. D. and Bessie Ophelia (Wilton) Jackson in San Saba County. Wilt was a native son of Richland Springs, leaving only to join the U.S. Navy and the war effort, where he served in the Pacific theater. Upon his return, he met Virginia “Ginger” Reynolds, and they married in June, 1947, settling on a farm outside Richland Springs. With the advent of the 1950’s drought, he resettled his young family in San Antonio, where he worked in Civil Service doing aircraft repair at Randolph Air Force Base for nearly 30 years.

William Jack Grant

William Jack Grant, age 56, of Richland Springs, passed away peacefully in his sleep December 29, 2017 at his residence. William was born on July 21, 1961 in Houston, Texas to Grover Wayne Grant and Mary Elizabeth Garner. Jack and his fiancé' Jennifer Melin, moved to Panama Beach, FL for a few years but returned to what they called home, Richland Springs. Jack leaves many behind to cherish his memory; fiancé' Jennifer Melin of Richland Springs; mother, Mary and step-father Ken Eason, of Richland Springs; one son, William Robert, US NAVY, and wife, Renee' Grant; one daughter, Savannah Lynne Grant of Spring, TX; four sisters, Deborah and husband Bud Isbell, of Santa Anna, Karen and husband Michael Lapaglia, of Palestine, Dee Breeden of San Angelo, Cyndi Manuel of Lake Charles, LA; one brother, Larry Grant of Richland Springs and numerous nieces and nephews that he loved dearly. Jack was preceded in death by his father, Wayne Grant and one brother, George Howard Higginbotham.

LaVerne Gregory Martin

LaVerne Gregory Martin of Plainview passed away on December 13, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on December 16, 2017 in the Family Life Chapel at First Baptist Church in Plainview with Dr. Travis Hart officiating. Private family burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. LaVerne was born on July 1, 1926 in Petersburg, Texas to Bess Mitchell and Marcus Jefferson Gregory. She married Charles B. Martin in 1944 and they established their home in Hart, Texas where they managed Nanny Farms for 30 years. In 1981, they retired to their ranch in San Saba, Texas. Mimi, as all who knew her, was a homemaker. The loves of her life were her husband and sons. She was especially adored by all her grandchildren. Mimi was a faithful member of First Baptist Church.

Marjorie Collins McDowell

Marjorie Collins McDowell was born February 7, 1927 in San Saba County to W.J. and Ola Collins and passed away December 18, 2017 in Lampasas, Texas. Marjorie graduated from San Saba High School in 1944. She married Myles D. McDowell on June 6, 1948. They lived on the family ranch until Myles passed away in January 2005. Marjorie continued to live on and operated the ranch until shortly before her death. Marjorie is survived by daughter, Sheila Christian and husband, Jerry of Lampasas; sons, Tom McDowell and wife, Cathy of Bend, Mike McDowell and wife, Carolyn of Holland Hill, Steve McDowell and wife, Robin also of Holland Hill; ten grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren. Numerous nieces, nephews and many friends also survive her. Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, her husband and one grandson. Services for Marjorie will be held Thursday, December 21, 2017 at 2:00p.m. under the direction of Heritage Funeral Home of San Saba.

Elisa Huffman Draper

Funeral Services for Elisa Huffman Draper, age 57, of Richland Springs will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 16, 2017, at Greater Faith Community Church with Pastor Charles Lowe and Bro. Barry Fikes officiating; burial will follow at Bowser Cemetery in San Saba County. Visitation will be held prior to services from 1-2 at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood. Elisa went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 10, 2017. Elisa was born to J.C. and Joyce (Wilburn) Huffman on March 1, 1960, in Houston, Texas. Elisa married the love of her life, Gary Draper, on Sept 1, 1979 in Humble, Texas. She was a woman of great faith; she was a member of Greater Faith Community Church. She loved her family and grandchildren dearly.
