Walter Dudley Tharp, Jr.

Walter Dudley Tharp, Jr., age 80, of Elm Grove, Texas formerly of Dripping Springs, Texas passed away on Sunday, November 5, 2017, at his beloved Senior Care of Brownwood with his family by his side when he went to be with Lord. Funeral Services for Walter will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 11, 2017, at Blaylock Funeral Home Chapel in Brownwood with Tony King officiating; burial will follow at Varga Chapel Cemetery in San Saba County. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 4-6 p.m. at Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood. Walter was born June 28, 1937, to Walter Tharp Sr. and Annie Harrell Tharp in Austin, Texas. Walter grew up in North Austin where he graduated from McCallum High School in 1956. He joined the Navy in 1956 and was active for 2 years, then in the reserves for another two. In 1959, Walter married the love of his life, Linda Sorrell of Dripping Springs.

James Patrick “Pat” Ragsdale

James Patrick “Pat” Ragsdale, 80, of Red Hill, PA, formerly of Eldorado Texas, died at Grand View Hospital, Sellersville, PA on Sat., Oct. 21, 2017. He was the loving husband of Dianna C. (Riley) Ragsdale.

Born in San Saba, Texas, he was the son of the late James Thomas and Juanita (Fry) Ragsdale. Pat was a 1955 graduate of Killeen High School, Killeen Texas.

He was a devoted member of the Community Baptist Church in Eldorado Texas. Pat was a man of faith who was active in the life of the churches he attended. He spent most of his life serving as Minister of Music at various Baptist churches throughout Texas. He retired from the Atlantic Richfield Company (ARCO), acting as a foreman.

While living in Eldorado Texas; Pat was an active citizen within Eldorado, holding the roles of mayor, judge, serving in the Lions club, a one-time leader of the local Masonic Lodge. He also participated in the community band and acted in the “Way-Off Broadway Players”.

Richard Kent Bonner

Richard Kent Bonner of Richland Springs, Texas, passed away on July 19, 2017 at Shannon Memorial Hospital in San Angelo Texas. A Celebration of his Life was held on July 22, 2017 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, officiated by Bill Gruesendorf. Kent, as he was known, was born to his parents, Phil Douglas Bonner and Pearle Elizabeth (Stotler) Bonner, on December 16, 1948 in San Antonio, Texas. Kent met Elizabeth Ann Wood in San Marcos, Texas, at Southwest Texas University in 1972. They married on August 24, 1974, in Austin, Texas. Kent was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in San Saba, Texas. His occupations were a contractor overseeing the installation/maintenance of wells/water lines/meters for Richland Springs Utility District (RSUD), and a Ranch Foreman for the Heatherly Ranch and the Hawkins Ranch. His hobbies were hunting, fishing and collecting arrowheads. His love for his family was first and forever.

Betty Jo Davis

Betty Davis, 71, wife of Dale Davis of Fort Worth, passed away Friday, October 6, 2017 at home. Visitation was held from 5-7:00 p.m. Tuesday October 10 at Lucas Funeral Home. Funeral Services are being held on Wednesday Ocober 11, at 10:00 a.m.. at Lucas Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held Thursday, October 12, 2017 at 12:30 p.m. at Richland Springs Cemetery. Graveside services under the direction of Heritage Funeral Home of San Saba. Betty was born on January 27, 1946 in Brady, Texas to Wilburn and Cliffair Lummus. Betty’s family roots are tied to Richland Springs and San Saba, TX. She met her husband, Dale Davis, at State Farm Insurance and they were married for 29 years. She was a proud G-maw who cherished every second spent with her grandchildren and never missed a chance to hug them and show them unconditional love. Her most precious moments were spent giving hugs and showing love to those who meant the most to her.

Dortha "Nelda" Green

Dortha “Nelda” Green, 88, of College Station, passed away Friday, October 6, 2017 at her home. Nelda was born in San Saba County, Texas, the only daughter of David Lee Smith and Gladys Patton Smith. Her parents preceded her in death in 1955 and 1963 respectively. She was also preceded in death by her two brothers, David Lee Smith, Jr. and Gailyian Patton Smith and a great niece. Mr. and Mrs. Mark Oliver Patton and Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Smith were her grandparents. Nelda graduated from San Saba High School in 1946 at age sixteen. Unable to attend a four-year college, she completed a year of business study in Austin, Texas and began her career immediately at the Texas Highway Department (now TXDOT). By age twenty she had become Administrative Clerk for Dewitt C.

Woodson Charles Carroll

Woodson Charles Carroll, age75, of Weatherford, Texas passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2017. Woodson was born on November 26, 1941 in Houston, Texas. His parents were J.L. and Velva (Moreland) Carroll. He attended college at SAC in San Angelo, Texas. Woody married Jo Ann Thompson on October 26, 1968 in San Angelo, Texas. He worked at Del – Tex Candy Company over twenty years. Woody was facility manger for Second Baptist Church Houston, Texas under Dr. Edwin Young for over twenty years. They were blessed with six children. He loved spending time with people especially his children, grand children and great-grandchildren.

Glenn Rayburn Burkman

Glenn Rayburn Burkman, age 69, born on August 31, 1948 to Henry and Georgia Burkman in Leuders, Texas, the oldest of three children. Glenn passed away Friday, September 22, 2017. Glenn graduated from Leuders High School. After high school, he attended and graduated from Tarleton State University. Glenn married Annette Duncan on September 22, 1973 in Stamford, Texas. Soon after they married they moved to Brownwood to begin their life. He was a hard worker and had many jobs throughout his life, including working for Wayne May-Brownwood Cattle Auction, Vernon Hogg’s Cattle Auction, and Jordan Cattle Auction both in Brownwood and San Saba. He also worked for the City of Brownwood, and his latest job at TX Dot. As a sign tech. Glenn really liked his job and his friends he made there. Glenn was happiest when he was at home. He learned to be a good ranch hand, cowboy and roper. He loved his family, animals, and pets.

Howard Lewis Young

Howard Lewis Young, age 70, of Winnsboro, formerly of Big Lake and San Saba, passed away in the mid-afternoon hours of Wednesday, September 13, 2017, at the Texoma Medical Center in Denison, with his beloved family by his side. Howard was born on October 20, 1946 in Big Lake, Texas, to the late Elbert and Ruth Burditt Young. Following high school, Howard began his life dedicated to his work. He was a skilled carpenter and hard-working hand in the oil field where he earned his way to pumper. Howard was a faithful Christian who spent his life in Big Lake, San Saba and eventually Winnsboro. In his free time, Howard enjoyed hunting, fishing and could deliver the best jokes. He also enjoyed cooking but his real love and favorite pastime was reading books. He had a love for reading that very few possess in today's world. Howard was particularly worried with making sure his books were always returned to the library on time and then renting the latest arrival.

Wanda Jean Bessent

Wanda Jean Bessent, 88 passed away September 9, 2017 in Lampasas. She was born October 25, 1928 in the Sloan Community of San Saba County to George Barrom and Thelma Langham Yarbrough. She married Willard Gorman Bessent in 1946 and he preceded her in death in 1989. Being the oldest of 8 children, she worked hard helping her dad on the Sloan Sisters Ranch where they lived and worked. When she was in her 30’s, she decided to go to nursing school and graduated in 1963. She worked in this field until she was in her 70’s, retiring from Sid Peterson in Kerrville. She suffered a stroke in 2007 and her health began to deteriorate. Wanda was a wonderful Mother, doing whatever she could to help her children. She was also a fantastic cook and no one ever left her house hungry. She also loved to fish and hunt and went on several hunting trips to Colorado where her family got to enjoy her camp cooking.

Calvin Henry Taylor

Calvin Henry Taylor, age 77, of Bastrop, Texas passed away on Sunday, September 10, 2017. He was born June 30, 1940 to Elbert and Ethel Taylor in Richland Springs, Texas, San Saba, County. Calvin is preceded in death by his parents Elbert and Ethel Taylor; brother, Thomas Neal Taylor, and sister, Eula Maureen Johnson. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Ann Taylor of Bastrop; sons, James Elbert Taylor, Richard Henry Taylor and wife ,Cindy ; stepdaughters, Marsha Renee Linhart; Diana Kay Moncure; grandchildren Brady Taylor, Neil Taylor, J.R. Taylor, Cody Taylor, Shelby Taylor, Courtney Allen, Lane Linhart and Christian Moncure; and numerous great grandchildren. Funeral Service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 16, 2017 at the Elgin Newlife Baptist Fellowship Church, 175 Hwy 95 S., Elgin, Texas Graveside Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. at Richland Springs Cemetery in Richland Springs, Texas.
