Rotary Club

Rotary President Mike Thomas welcomes the newest member of the Rotary Club of San Saba into the club. Trey Brooks, Relationship Manager, with Capital Farm Credit was inducted at the club meeting Thursday, January 08. Trey will be serving on the Flag Project committee with President Elect Don Linguist. The January 15th meeting of the Rotary Club will be held at Bar D Brew House. Larry Davis, owner and brew master, will be telling the club how he got into the business and how to brew good beer.

The San Saba County Commissioners Court was held on Monday, January 12th at 9: 00 a.m. in the County Judge’s Chambers. County Judge Byron Theodosis called the Court to order and  welcomed everyone. Commissioner Rickey Lusty gave the invocation followed by everyone joining for the pledges to the American and Texas flags. The following County Official and Departmental reports were approved subject to audit: County/District Clerk; County Treasurer; County Justice of the Peace; County Sheriff and Jail. The following non-action Departmental Reports were accepted: County Extension Agents; County Trapper; and other Departments.

Dental Assistant students graduate from Lampasas County Higher Education Center - Students will now go on to take their Registered Dental Assistant certification exam. The next Dental Assistant training program at Lampasas  County Higher Education Center meets Mondays and Thursdays from 5:15 - 9:15 p.m.

The Mason Lions Club donated $250 to The San Saba VFD. Capt. Junior Harrell was on hand to receive the check from Mason Lions Club President Ken Cordero. The money is a portion raised during the Mason Lions Club Gem of the Hill Country 5K/10K Fun Run and Walk held in September

DPS increases DWI enforcement during holidays

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) will increase DWI patrols for a 15- day period that includes both the Christmas and New Year holidays. From December 19 – January 2, DPS troopers will focus DWI patrols in highrisk locations at times when alcohol-related crashes are most frequent.

59th Annual San Saba County Pecan Food Show Winners

The 59th annual San Saba County Pecan Food Show was  held December 5th at the Courthouse. There were 64 entries this year spread over the three divisions. Lynn Blankenship’s Pecan Pie Fudge was awarded the Club
division Grand Champion. Ora Beth Hicks took the Reserve Champion honors with her Banana –Cranberry-Pecan Bread  with Orange Glaze.

LCRA breaks ground on new reservoir

In the midst of a historic drought in Texas, the Lower Colorado River Authority on Wednesday broke ground on the region’s first significant new water supply reservoir in decades. The off-channel reservoir in Wharton County will
reduce demands on the Highland Lakes and benefit everyone who depends on water from the lakes and lower Colorado River.
