San Saba Garden Club September Yard of the Month

August heat was too hard on everyone and their yards. After the rain showers, community lawns, flower beds and all things garden perked up again. As things started greening up, we hit the road looking for that one home and garden that spoke to us.

Yes, we found it! This yard is located at 602 W. Storey and 6th Street. Don and Brenda Riggs, along with their dogs - Joey and Mia - call this place home. Both are native to San Saba but Brenda only returned to the area recently. She and Don rekindled their 8th grade sweetheart relationship. They were married February 2017. The newlyweds have worked together to update the house built in 1955, and purchased from Jay and Kay Karney. Originally, the parsonage for the Episcopal Church just behind them, the home has been Don's residence for nine years.

And the rains came!

San Saba and much of Texas have been recently blessed with several days of rainfall. Pictured is the San Saba River at Old Pecan Grove Road bridge filling its banks, and then some. This flow mostly originated from rainfall in the Menard area. San Saba residents are looking forward to cooler temperatures and possibly more rain in the coming days.

Then he said that he heard that he was accused of shooting me and I asked him if he heard that I said so and he asked me, did I think that he shot me. I told him I didn’t know who shot me at all that I was well now and did not want to know or something of the kind.

He told me that Bill James had accused him of it. He said that them Methodists were talking too much about him and that James had to keep his mouth shut and that if he did not do it he had a way of making him do it.
