Lady Dillos Cross Country Team places 2nd at State Meet

The San Saba Lady Dillo Cross Country Team ran in the State Cross Country meet Saturday, November 4th at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock. The Lady Dillos placed 2nd overall as a team. The team had an amazing race and have a lot to be proud. Individually Brighton Adams placed 4th, Kylee Eckermann 12th, Kaleigh Ellis 13th, Courtnee Cash 15th, Isabel Vega 73rd , Abigail Jimenez 77th and Christina Robles 79th. Brighton, Kylee, Kaleigh and Courtnee were all selected as part of the CCCAT All-State team.

Ministerial Alliance appeals for donations

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, the San Saba County Ministerial Alliance is appealing for donations to help fund the annual Christmas voucher program. Each year over 100 vouchers are distributed to San Saba County families who receive food from the Capital Area Food Bank. This ministry provides a coupon that can be redeemed at local businesses for the purchase of meat for Christmas dinner. The amount of the voucher will depend on the donations received from the community.

2017 San Saba County Pecan Show

San Saba Pecan Growers will sponsor the 2017 County Pecan Show on November 27th and 28th. Entries MUST be in Arrowhead Bank on or before noon November 22nd!! This is NOT optional! This date is necessary in order to have samples at the Regional Pecan show in Belton at the required time.

You may enter one sample per variety. A sample consists of 40 to 42 pecans. If you do not know the variety, we will make every effort to classify the sample.

The defense called Daugherty to testify as to the drowning of Mrs. Turner’s boy some days before the murder of Turner, as Mrs. Turner had asserted on the stand that she believed Ford had drowned him. Daugherty’s evidence showed that it was purely accidental and that Ford had nothing whatever to do with it. Witness for the defense. W.P. Smith testified that he is a minister of the Baptist church, and had lived in San Saba since 1870.

American Legion Post to meet on Veterans Day 2017

The veterans of the Wiley B. Murray Post No. 27 will meet Friday, November 10th, to celebrate Veterans Day as guests of San Saba ISD. Breakfast will be served at the Armadillo Arena at 7:30 a.m. Valet parking will be available. The program will begin at 8:15 a.m. The school will have individuals available to direct traffic and assist veterans.

Origins of Veterans Day

World War I - known at the time as "The Great War" - officially ended when the Treaty of Versailles was signed on June 28, 1919. However, fighting ceased seven months earlier when an armistice or temporary cessation of hostilities, between the Allied nations and Germany went into effect on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.

San Saba City Council holds regular meeting October 10th

The San Saba City Council held a regular session on Tuesday, October 10th, in the City Hall Chambers. Mayor Ken Jordan called the Council to order at 6:00 p.m., announced a quorum and welcomed everyone. Shawn Oliver, Alderman, gave the invocation, and led everyone in the flag pledges.

The following Council members were in attendance: Ken Jordan, Mayor; Mark Amthor, Mayor Pro-Tem; Oleta Behrens, Alderman and Stan Weik, City Manager. Charles Peeler, AlderSan

Veterans Day Flags

By Texas Hunters for Heroes

In order to honor our deceased veterans, Texas Hunters for Heroes would like to help all of the cemeteries in San Saba County post the flag of The United States of America on their graves for Veterans Day and Memorial Day weekends. Texas Hunters for Heroes will see that the flags are posted in the San Saba City Cemetery and will furnish flags free of charge for all of the other cemeteries in the county.

The American flags from Texas Hunters for Heroes are available for pick up at San Saba Olive Oil Company. Please leave your name, phone number, and the name of the cemetery where you will be placing the flags. Texas Hunters for Heroes also asks that you reuse these flags the next year (replacement flags are available as needed).

SS Rotary Club Golf Tournament this Saturday

Aleck Newby, Rotary Club Secretary, with the 12-gauge Remington 870 Express shotgun to be given as one of several prizes in the upcoming San Saba Rotary Club Golf Tournament. The tournament is scheduled this Saturday, October 28th, with Tee Time at noon. Cost is $50.00 per person (green fees included) and all contestants will receive dinner and a "goodie" bag.

San Saba Golden Armadillo Band headed to Area competition

The San Saba Golden Armadillo Band competed at the UIL Regional Marching Band Competition this past weekend in Leander. They received 1st Division Superior Ratings and advance to Area at Waco Robinson which will take place next Saturday, October 28th. The Golden Armadillo Band will compete tentatively at 4:30 p.m. This is the 6th consecutive 1st Division Superior rating at UIL Region marching contest for the band and the 3rd consecutive time advancing to Area marching contest.
