Wildlife is Big Business in San Saba County

By Macy Ledbetter

Everyone appreciates a big whitetail buck, a flock of turkey, or seeing a diversity of small game, right? Did the photo of this big buck catch your attention and get you thinking about the upcoming hunting season? It does that to thousands of out- of-town visitors and hunters too so I need your help immediately to ensure this positive trend continues for our county.

The San Saba County Wildlife & Livestock Association was formed to help provide the necessary matching funds to ensure the continued presence of Texas Wildlife Services’ Wildlife Damage Management technicians in San Saba County. New state regulations mandate our county must increase our shared funding responsibilities by $12,000 starting in 2018 to keep both trappers active.

San Saba Garden Club August 2017 Yard of the Month

It was a brilliant August morning as we drove the streets looking for the yard of the month. Astoundingly there are beautiful yards even during our hottest month of the year.

Dedication is what it takes to ensure your yard will thrive. Junior Hernandez calls this commitment his therapy; watering his plants by hand and tending to his beautifully manicured garden. Junior (Yldifonso) and Suzana Hernandez, at 1008 W. Commerce, are this month’s favorite.

The Hernandez family moved into the Craftsman style house San Saba Garden Club August 2017 Yard of the Month Submitted by Dianna Furlan, Chair Yard of the Month San Saba Garden Club which was built around 1939, calling it home since 2004.
