Travis David Lee Dirk and Shelby Cecelia Hardy were united in marriage on Saturday, June 14, 2014 on the banks of the San Saba River at Soap’s Place in San Saba, Texas. Shelby is the daughter of Shay Hardy and Betty Sue Hardy of San Saba. She is the granddaughter of Bill & JoAnne Hardy of San Saba, Raymond & Olivia Valles of Lampasas, and Henry & Estella Fernandez of Lawrence, Kansas

The River City Band celebrates one year anniversary

The River City Band marked its first anniversary this past Monday, September 15th. The band is now one-year old and is looking to expand its repertoire for Christmas to include two favorites, Sleigh Ride and Christmas Festival, both by well-known composer and arranger, Leroy Anderson, and an arrangement of excerpts from Tchaikovsky’s Christmas Ballet, The Nutcracker

City of San Saba hires new police officer

Police Officer Randy Parrish was introduced at the City Council meeting on Tuesday, September 9th. His first day on the police force at San Saba was September 1st. Officer Parrish graduated from the Permian BasinLawEnforcementAdacemyat Midland, Texas in 2000. His recent employment starting in 2008 was a CampusLawEnforcementofficerand Computer net working Instructor at TexasStateTechnicalCollege.

Crosby-Sawyer Exchange Vows

Tarah Mae Crosby and Justin Sutton Sawyer exchanged wedding vows on Saturday May 24, 2014 at Soap’s Place in San Saba, Texas. The service was officiated by the bride’s father, Samuel Crosby. Assisting was youth pastor
and friend, Alvino Valdez. The bride is the daughter of Sam and Jan Crosby of San Saba, TX. She is the granddaughter of Donna Crosby of Gatesville. The groom is the son of Joby and Marianne Sawyer of Katy, TX. Grandparents are Tom and Betty Sawyer and Patsy Sutton.

San Saba Garden Club holds first meeting of the new year

Tuesday, September 2nd,  marked the day for the first meeting of the new year for the San Saba Garden Club. Members gathered at the historic clubhouse in Mill Pond Park at 2:00 p.m. for catching up on news of summer gardening activities and family adventures. Program speaker, Harriet Houston, along with her husband, David, and guest, Kate Beckes, representing the San Saba County Friends of Animals, joined the 24 members in enjoying luscious refreshments provided by hostesses, Nancy Van Etten (chairman), Lynn McHenry, Gail Eltgroth, and George Thompson.

Susan Combs announces record-low interest rate for Texas short-term notes

Texas Comptroller Susan Combs announced the recent sale of $5.4 billion in Texas Tax and Revenue Anticipation Notes (TRANs) received an interest rate of 0.1326 percent — the lowest rate ever received for the state’s 
one-year notes

Churches celebrate 140 years of Christian witness in San Saba County

On Sunday, August 17, 2014, more than 75 past and present members of New Hope Presbyterian Church and First Presbyterian Church of San Saba gathered together to celebrate 140 years of Christian Witness in San Saba
County. After an introduction and blessing by Rev. Drew Harrison, a covered dish luncheon was enjoyed by all inside  the FPC San Saba Fellowship Hall, followed by a short speech from the keynote speaker, Dick Miller, also a member of FPC San Saba
