Kids Korner the Fun at Holiday Market

By Linda Pledger

Grownups aren’t the only ones who have a good time at PEEC’s Holiday Market. Kids have their own Korner on the market, with games, books, Christmas crafts, a coloring contest, a toy box and a box of clothes for dress up. How’s that for a 9 to 4 day of entertainment on November 12 at the Hamilton Fair Park pavilions, 1007 Park Road and Alamo! With help from PEEC members Bernice Wendland, Alice Pietzsch, and Kelly Kuhl, we plan to make a fun day of it for various ages of children.

Wedding Oak Winery 2016 Harvest: A challenging year, a stellar vintage

By Penny S. Adams

Heavy rain, hail, searing arid heat, followed by more sustained heavy rain. That sounds like a recipe for disaster for a farmer. That's what we faced this year. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: growing grapes in Texas ain't for the faint of heart. To be able to successfully harvest a high-quality crop takes vigilant vineyard management and a healthy dose of luck. It is well worth the effort. The best wines start in the vineyard. Early in the growing season, we experienced dry conditions which persisted from pruning through bud break. Fortunately, frequent heavy rainfall midseason allowed for larger grape clusters during the cell division stage.
