San Saba’s 3rd Educational Tour to Spain

One of our 7 adults commented, “I didn’t realize that we were going to speed walk across Spain!” It seemed true as we traveled from northeast to southmost Spain on our tour. One of the travelers tracked some 35 miles that we walked in the 8 full days we toured in the country. It was quite hot (about like home) and the kids agreed they would return home grateful for their air conditioning! The food was very different from what some expected. A few took advantage of a Taco Bell in one city. Some were excited after a few days to see a Mexican restaurant. However, several were adventurous and found the Mediterranean flavors tasty. Such items as paella, tortilla (very different from the Mexican flatbread), hard breads, Spanish hams and cheeses, croquettes, flan, gelato, calamari, octopus and many foods made with olive oil were tried while traveling. Fanta orange was a big hit as usual—seems it is better in Spain!

By Donna Webb, Reporter

The San Saba County Commissioners Court held a regular meeting on Monday, July 10th, in the County Judge's Chambers. County Judge Byron Theodosis called the Court to order at 9:00 a.m. and welcomed everyone. Rickey Lusty, Commissioner, gave the invocation, followed by everyone joining in the flag pledges.

Audience for Concerned Citizens: Four San Saba County residents attended this meeting. They voiced concerns about the condition of their county road, especially with a muddy "bog" in which their vehicles have been stranded. One of their complaints emphasized "rock trucks making ruts." Because of these conditions, they stated no "911" service can be provided to their homes

Annual W. W. Millican Reunion

Submitted by Bonnie Millican

The annual Millican family reunion was held on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at the San Saba Civic Center in San Saba. Some 33 descendants and friends of the Mose and Miles Millican families met for food and fellowship. Following grace, a delicious meal of brisket (prepared by Forrest McGregor) and side dishes were served. During the meal, there was ongoing discussion regarding the sequel to the Millican Family Cookbook. Jerilyn and Mike are still soliciting recipes from family members. Send recipes to: Jerilyn Millican, 1808 Austin Avenue, Brownwood, Texas 76801. The recipes of food served at the reunion would be fine!

The Pierian Study Club met for the final meeting before the summer break with it’s annual ‘Year End Guest’ evening May 12, 2017, at the beautiful Mahan Ranch Guest Home with a festive Farm Fete. The theme of western décor was carried out throughout the party on the patio with a host of guests, many husbands of the members. Happy Herman's Hideaway

Well hello lovely people of San Saba! Last week was a huge week for this little dachshund! Not only did my newly named column appear in this wonderful paper but my article came out in a Florida pet magazine called Pawsmopolitian! Man, oh man, I had a two page spread which pretty much means I talk a lot. Now those were the good things in my week, shall we get to the not so good thing…my trip to the groomer! I love my dad to pieces, he is by far my favorite human on earth but his judgment on hair length leaves much to be desired, well, because he is bald! Furthermore, I believe he forgets I am not a smooth coat dachshund or a hairless cat but a silky wire haired dachshund!
