Richland Springs’ student athletes and coaches receive State accolades

The Richland Springs Coyotes became the 2019 Division 2 State Champions with a 62-16 victory over the Motley County Matadors. Fans and students were in awe of the facilities at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.

Success brings awards and recognition. Here are some of the recognitions the Coyotes have received. The Coyotes now have nine state championships which put them in a world of their own in Texas football. At the state game, junior Landon Burkhart was named Offensive MVP and senior Wade Appleton was named Defensive MVP.

The 2019 All West Texas Six-man Football Team was announced. Junior Matthew Rigdon, spread back/defensive lineman, was named Most Valuable Player. Senior Lane Shannon was named Co-Defensive Most Valuable Player. Senior Deklyn Chandler was named Lineman of the Year. Jerry Burkhart was named Co-Coach of the Year. Junior Landon Burkhart was named All West Texas Running Back. Senior Wade Appleton was named All West Texas Defensive Back.
