Montez Rhodes Jones died peacefully April 11, 2019 in her home of 67 years in Rockdale, Texas. She was surrounded by her children, caregivers, and had been visited by grandchildren and some great-grandchildren earlier in the week. She was born October 22, 1922 in San Saba, Texas, the only daughter of George H. Rhodes and Sweet Ora Walker Rhodes. Her mother died when she was fiveyears-old; she was raised in San Saba by her father and his second wife, Josephine “Josie” Gay Rhodes.

She graduated from San Saba schools and Durham Business College in Austin, Texas. She married Lieutenant James Vance Jones of Lampasas, in Lubbock, Texas on January 10, 1943. He preceded her in death. After the end of World War II, they lived briefly in Lampasas, Burnet, and Marble Falls, Texas, moving to Rockdale in 1952.

Montez was a Godly woman, loving wife and mother, plus a long standing member of the Rockdale St. John’s United Methodist Church. She was also a Cub Scout den mother, active in multiple Rockdale Bridge Clubs, and an avid lifelong Crossword Puzzle player; her last puzzle was done on March 19th.

Mrs. Jones is survived by her three children: Jimmy Karl Jones and wife, Tonia, of Lampasas, Texas; Andrew E. Jones III of Austin; and Kimberly Jones of Austin; seven grandchildren: Andrew E. Jones IV and wife, Sarah, of Nacogdoches; Jennifer Jones, Jonathan Ryan Jones, James Brandon Jones and wife, Evan, all of Austin; Cyril Vance Jones and wife, Lindsay, of Houston; Edward McLean Jones of Dallas; and Anthony James Jones of Georgetown; five great-grandchildren: McKenzie Grace Jones, Elena Reese Jones, Gentry Blue Jones, and twins: Reed Campbell Jones & Harris MacLean Jones.

The entire family wishes to express their utmost gratitude to Mother’s caregivers of the last few years: Rosie Johnson, Mary Helen Ortega, Yolanda Rosas, and Rosa Reyes.

Graveside burial services for the family will be Thursday, April 18, 2019, at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lampasas, Texas. Family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kindred Hospice, 2626 South 37th St., Temple, TX 76504.

Funeral home related services in Rockdale, Texas were provided by Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home. Graveside services are being provided by Sneed Funeral Chapel Lampasas, Texas.
