Six days after walking off the gridiron for the final time in 2018 the Richland Springs Coyotes found themselves in unfamiliar territory, they were trailing. Down 7 late in the first quarter to Lingleville the Coyotes, with merely 2 days of practice under their belt, went to work. Lead in scoring by Sophomore Matthew Rigdon (35) and defensive stops by Senior Cameron Parham, the Coyotes ended the next three quarters on a 43-21 run to win 62-37.

The Coyotes never seemed to cool off in the coming days as the average of margin of victory exceeded 35 points while defeating Rochelle, Lometa, and Brookesmith. Multiple double-digit rebound games from Junior Wade Appleton and scoring outbursts of 32 by Freshman Chase Rigdon and 31 from Matthew Rigdon saw that the Coyotes would play in the tournament final.
