The Texas Rangers and The San Saba Mob

In 1941, Vernon Thomas wrote his master thesis for the University of New Mexico, entitled “The History of Education in San Saba County.” Even at that late date, it was apparent that remnants of some Mob influence still lingered. Almost seven pages of his thesis were dedicated to the subject of Mob rule. One of the most remarkable entries said:

“...factors that delayed the developments of many San Saba County rural schools in the late nineties and in the early part of the present century were the result of mob rule....Even as late as 1925 school board members in one or two districts were always selected from those persons who were said to have been identified with mob rule....”
