It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we mourn the loss of our beloved mother, Karen Ford Erby. Karen passed from this life into heaven on Wednesday, February 7, 2018, after a short battle with cancer. She was born in Brady, Texas on December 13, 1939, to Jack and Norma Lee Ford, and grew up in Richland Springs, Texas.

Karen held a variety of accounting jobs until she found her life’s work in the Fort Worth Police Department working in Jail Operations and as an Intoxilizer Operator.

Karen lived a life of meaning and purpose. She was the heart and soul of her family, to whom she dedicated her life. She raised two young daughters as a single parent during hard times with strength and grace. In addition to her daughters, she was known as “mom” and “grandma” to so many more! Her heart was huge with love and she shared that love with everyone she met.

Karen worked tirelessly in service to God through Hurst Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) where she held many leadership positions: Elder, Worship Chair, Chair of Elders, and many roles in Disciples Women’s Ministries. Outreach was her passion, and she helped many who were starting new lives in America. From school supplies to clothes to food, she shared her life and faith with all. She loved with a gracious and beautiful spirit.

The outpouring of love extended to her in these last few months is the greatest testament to a life well lived and a heart that loved completely. We know she has heard “Well done, my good and faithful servant” in heaven.

Karen was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Joe Erby; both her parents; and her two beloved sisters, Jackline Ford and Judy Beth Walker.

Left to grieve her passing are two daughters, Kathryn Jones Harper and husband Don of Keller, and Debra Jones of Bedford; grandson Ryan Harper and fiancée Catelin Hardin of Keller; former husband Harold Dean Kennedy of Ajijic, Jalisco, Mexico; brother-in-law Harold Walker and wife Rachael of Cedar Park; two nieces, Janine Barnett and husband David of Morristown, TN, and Jennifer Entrekin of Leander; nephew RC Walker and wife Tricia of Georgetown; seven great nieces and nephews; and many dear and greatly loved friends.

A Memorial Service was held on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at 11:00 am at Hurst Christian Church.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial gift to Hurst Christian Church, 745 Brown Trail, Hurst, Texas 76053, or to a charity of your choice.
