Otto Weatherford Bynum, 93, of San Saba, passed from this life on June 14, 2014 in Lampasas, Texas. He was born on September 22, 1920 to his father Royal Robert Bynum and mother Asenath Harris Bynum in Hamilton
County, Texas. Otto was raised in the Catclaw Community in San Saba County and graduated from San Saba High School in 1940. He enrolled at John Tarleton College in 1940 to continue his education before he was drafted into military service in 1942. While in the Army Air Corps, Otto served as a meteorologist in the South Pacific Theater of Operations until his discharge in 1946. After the war, Otto obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Soil Science from Texas A&M University. He worked for the Soil Conservation Service (SCS) for 35 years, mapping soils in several Central Texas counties becoming a “million-acre-mapper.” He wrote the “Soil Survey of San Saba County, Texas” published in 1982 and retired from the SCS in 1984. In 1953 he married his wife of 61 years Lucian Nell Fox of Ola, Texas. They lived in San Saba before moving to Brady in 1958, where they spent ten years, before moving back to San Saba. A long-time member of the 2nd and Wallace Church of Christ, Otto served as Deacon, Elder, and Bible class teacher. An accomplished horticulturist, he continued pecan farming,
after retiring until 2013. He enjoyed participating in area Pecan Field Days and local pecan shows winning numerous State blue ribbons. He is survived by his wife, Lucian Bynum; four children, Sarah Anderson and husband, Kris of Abilene, Texas, Liz Mullican and husband, Jeffrey of Eula, Texas, Stephen Bynum and wife, Denita of Lampasas, Texas, and David Bynum and wife, Elizabeth of Falls Church, Virginia; grandchildren, Elijah 
Anderson and wife, Alisa, Joseph Anderson and wife, Lauren Tyrel Mullican, Shiloh Mullican, Laura Lynn Bynum, J.D. Bynum, Rebekah Bryant and husband, Josh and Micah Bynum; and great grandchildren, Hudson Anderson and Boss Bryant. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and three brothers. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., at Blaylock Funeral Home of San Saba.
Funeral Services will be held on June 19, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at the 2nd and Wallace Church of Christ in San Saba. Memorials can be made to the Cherokee Home for Children. Online condolences can be made at Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of San Saba
