SSHS One Act Play is working on their contest show, Cinderella Waltz by Don Nigro. The play is being produced through special arrangements with Samuel French, Inc. The group has travelled to festivals in Richland Springs and Waco Midway High School. The play will be presented for the public on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at 7 p.m.

The local chapter of The Daughters of the Republic of Texas hosted the I Love Texas Art and Poetry Contest during the month of February. The art contest was open to ages five through adult. Projects were required to relate to Texas or to the history of Texas. The poetry contest was open to grades 3 - 9 and to adults.

The San Saba Tennis Team played in the State 2A & Under Team Tournament on March 8-9 in the Round Rock-Leander-Georgetown area.
Teams in the State Tournament were East Bernard, Wall, Godley, Brownfield, Schulen-burg, Mason, San Saba, Brock, Ingram, Franklin, Kirbyville, Knippa, Wink, Reagan County, White Oak, and Forsan.
The Dillos played a tough team from Kirbyville in the first round.

The junior high boys track teams ran this past week at Goldthwaite. There was a lot of good competition and over 600 kids competing. The kids ran well, and all of them ran a better time than the previous meet. The final results are as follows:
7th grade boys: Chris Thorns-berry 5th overall in the 100m dash (13.49).

I hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend. I’m sure many will be whining when we’re in school at the end of the week, knowing their friends in area schools have the full week off. I keep telling myself we got to be off Friday and we might be off a future day that others don’t have!

In addition to State Tennis, Regional Powerlifting, and he Mill Pond Classic Baseball tournament, the San Saba track teams competed this past weekend at the Bluebonnet Relays in Brownwood. The prelims and field events were held on Friday, with running finals held on Saturday. San Saba was well represented, and competed well in the meet.

Cherokee FFA celebrated National FFA Week recently. Grow, is this year’s theme, and it celebrates more than 80 years of FFA traditions while eagerly anticipating the organization’s future. More than half a million nationwide members participated in National FFA Week activities at local, state and national levels.

San Saba High School is competing in the “Texas Public Schools Rock!” student video contest sponsored by the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB). The school’s submission is among more than 100 videos posted on the TASB Web Site at www.tasb.org that illustrate the value of Texas’ public education and emphasize the many positive things happening in our local schools.

On Friday, the San Saba High School Power lifting team competed in the Strawn meet. The team increased in numbers and increased in weight totals from the Brady meet, thus showing great improvement. The San Saba Boys team finished 2nd out of 17 teams and there were several two and three A and four A teams at this meet.

The San Saba High School Tennis Team had a busy week last week in preparation for the 2A & Under Region V Tournament on March 1-2. On Tuesday, February 19, we took part of our varsity and JV Team to play Llano in team tennis. The Armadillos won the match 9 to 8.
