The 5th/6th grade San Saba Junior Lady Dillos (6-4) have
quietly established themselves as tournament title contenders.
The Lady Dillos finished in third place in the eight team field of the Goldthwaite Tournament held on March 2, only behind tournament champion San Saba 6th Grade JLD and runner-up, Bangs Lady Dragons.

On March 2, the 3rd/4th Grade San Saba Junior Lady Dillos
(9-2) advanced to the championship game of the eight team
field, Goldthwaite Tournament and finished in second place. On March 9, The Lady Dillos would once again advance to the championship game of the Zephyr Tournament and finish in second place.

The San Saba 6th Grade Junior Lady Dillos (18-1) are riding a 13 game winning streak. More importantly, they are riding a 4 tournament win streak. The Lady Dillos have claimed tournament championships at Brownwood,
Goldthwaite, Priddy and Zephyr.
The last two championships claimed on the same day, about two hours apart.

The San Saba Tennis Team hosted a tournament in San Saba on March 12-13. Teams in the tournament were Brady, Lago Vista, Mason and San Saba. In girls doubles Joannah Crosby and Joely Haverland won first place. Josie Dawson and Morgan Jimenez won third place. In boys doubles, Alex Baker and Gunnar Hibler won first place.

Let’s talk kids. What is the best possible educational path to prepare them for what their futures? We need students that can think on their own and solve problems. Do our state-adopted Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills limit the scope of our students and put a stranglehold on teachers? The actual standards that are predicated by the state are what teachers are commissioned to teach in San Saba ISD.

On Saturday, March 16th San Saba High School boys competed in a track meet at Mason. This was a highly competitive meet, and these young men should be congratulated on the fine job they did in their first meet. All of our athletes finished at least 12th or better in all of their events.

The Lampasas County Higher Education Center (LCHEC) has released 2013 applications for the Edward Jones Pursuit of Excellence scholarship (sponsored by Ken McDaniel, Edward Jones Investments, Lampasas) and for the LCHEC scholarship. Both scholarships are for $500. The deadline for both applications is April 5, 2013. Applications must be received in the LCHEC office by that date.
The Pursuit of Excellence scholarship is for tuition for college credit courses taken at LCHEC.

The San Saba JH Girls track season is under way with the girls competing in Early and Goldthwaite over the last two weeks. All the girls competed well on cold windy nights and represented San Saba well. The results are:
7th grade Early Meet: Analyn Bohensky – 1st Pole Vault, 1st long Jump, Sydnie Norris – 3rd 100m Dash, Ivonn Franco – 5th 300m Hurdles.

Since our last report we have hosted a tournament, completed our first district game, and will have played our second and third district games before you hear from us again.
Back on March 7th, 8th, and 9th we hosted the Mill Pond Classic. On Thursday, the day opened with Mason taking on Goldthwaite with their JV’s and then with their varsities.

Students, faculty and staff arrived back at school on Monday, March 18 after a week of spring break. Students and faculty returned to a busy schedule of events. Junior high tracksters competed at Zephyr on Monday, March 18. The high school golf team coached by Michael Brand traveled to Kerrville on Tuesday, March 19 to compete in a golf tournament.

Oh my goodness!! Only 9-weeks of school left! So much to do and so little time to get it all accomplished. The most important task at hand is to make certain that we cover the educational curriculum/Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) left to cover before state assessment time and before the end of the school year.

The RSHS One Act Play will be presented this coming Sunday, March 17th, after a noon fish fry. The Fish Fry begins at 12:00 noon with Jeffrey Bates cooking American-raised catfish and Wayne Gossett cooking his famous red beans. Parents of the cast and crew will bring
wonderful desserts for your enjoyment.
At 1:30, the students will present their competition play for 2013, These Shining Lives, a true story about four strong women who got the first labor laws passed in the United States.
