Kendall Myers (daughter of Larry & Suzanne Crum of Cherokee) shot this buck on 26 December 2012, on the Crum Ranch in Cherokee. The buck was officially gross scored at 162 2/8 and is Kendall’s first deer.

Lane Oliver recently shot this 13 point buck with an unusual 8.5" drop tyne on the Oliver Ranch in San Saba County. Lane is the grandson of Clydene Oliver and Jim and Marsha Childress.

Receipts totaled 1169 head for the week. Demand was good with the stocker steers selling steady to $2.00 higher and the stocker heifers selling $3.00 higher with one set of 8 choice Angus heifers weighing 435 pounds bringing $166.00. The feeder steers and heifers sold steady to $2.00 higher. Packer cows and bulls sold steady with a bull at $100.00 weighing 2225 pounds.

Receipts totaled 5457 head for the week. The market was active and demand good. The market had a softer tone on the light weight calves due to the continued dry conditions causing the wheat field grazing to deteriorate and sending those light calves to grow yards or feed yards where the cost of gain is much higher than the wheat fields.

From blue catfish to desert big horn sheep, Texas Parks and Wildlife stocked a lot of fish and four wildlife species across the state in fiscal 2012, according to a report given to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission Thursday.The department’s Coastal Fisheries Division stocked more than 21 million fish along Texas’ long coastline, including nearly 1,700 Southern flounder, 6.2 million spotted sea trout and 15.1 million red drum.

Receipts totaled 1919 head for the week. Demand was strong with the stocker steers and heifers selling steady compared to the week before Thanksgiving. The bigger feeder steers and heifers also sold steady. Packer cows were $3.00 higher with the top cow at $86.00 and packer bulls were $3.00 higher with the top bull at $99.50 weighing 2360 ($2348.20).

The following items are compiled from recent Texas Parks and Wildlife Department law enforcement reports. • Dove Caught Your Tongue? A Waller County game warden and a Harris County game warden were patrolling Waller County when, just before sunset, the wardens heard multiple shots coming from a wooded area. They made their way through the trees and observed three dove hunters having a great hunt, but not retrieving the doves that fell into the woods.

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, Llano County, will sponsor a CEU Conference on Tuesday, December 4, 2012, at the Llano Church of Christ Annex in Llano. This program will be for individuals who possess a valid private applicators license, a commercial applicators license, or a noncommercial applicators license, and would like continuing education units (CEUs) to help with fulfilling their recertification requirements.
