I had a garden hoe once and the handle broke in half. I had a car that ran well and then the motor locked up and I had to get another one. I had a candle that I burned and the wick and wax burned up and melted. All of these things were meant to do just that - either break or be used up.

In ancient cultures, the most important thing a household did was to never let the fire go cold. In rural Korean cultures, the same ancestral fire burned for centuries, and when they moved, they took the fire of their forefathers with them.
When your fire went out, it was thought, you lost your connection with heaven.

He is middle aged and diagnosed with cancer. He has been taking radiation and chemo but now is in the hospital hooked up to machines and may only have a short time here on earth. That man reminds me of something in the Bible.
Around 2000 years ago a young man, in his early thirties, only had about three weeks to live.

Richland Springs’ students continue to do well at major stock shows. Landon Burkhart won the lightweight hair sheep class, and Adrienne Benson placed second in the same class at the San Angelo Stock Show. There were 33 entries in the lightweight hair sheep class. Congrats to both Landon and Adrienne on the 1-2 finish.

Will wonders never cease, some rain fell around the Bend. Bonnie Millican reported that they received one-half inch, but 2/10 was all that fell on the west side of the river. Not a huge amount but it was moisture which is so badly needed. Some fruit trees are beginning to bloom as a result of all the warm weather.

We were blessed with a little rain Sunday night. Bowser had a tenth of an inch, Lakeview area received ½ inch. I know how important these rain reports are to our out of town readers. Yesterday was very windy, if it wasn’t battened down, it probably ended up on the neighbor’s property.

Last night was the night of Hollywood recognition, the STATUE night. I have to say, folks, I could only stay with it for bits and pieces and the snippets I watched did not impress me. Maybe it is my aging attitude but I could care less about who is wearing whom, how long it took for Katherine Zeta Jones to pick a dress or whether Michael Douglas had a say in her choice.

By the time this edition comes out we will be about through with February. All teachers are on a crash course for STAAR tests in April. The months seem to be flying by at an alarming rate. What is even more alarming is the lack of rain we have had on this end of the county.

The early church had a fantastic start. 3000 people were baptized at the teaching of Peter on the Day of Pentecost for the remission of their sins. The churches had all things in common. Then, Peter and John heal a crippled man at the gate called beautiful.
However, the chief priest, rulers, the Sadducees and the teachers of the law were greatly disturbed about the teaching of the young church regarding the resurrection of the dead.

I guess it was in grade school that I was first exposed to verb tenses. There we learned that a verb could be for things in the past, or things in the present, or something in the future. Thinking about that reminds me of something in the Bible. There are a lot of verses speaking about sin but there are a lot of verses speaking about forgiveness.

With all the media we have today it is easier to download books and other things to our computers, phones, and tablets. I have downloaded all kinds of books and have enjoyed reading them. And yet there is one book that takes the place of every one of these - our Bibles.

It was unanimous when Theresa Romero was chosen as the Employee of the Month for February. Theresa is a lifelong resident of San Saba County. Her presence here at Pecan Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation brightens even the dreariest of days.
At any given time of the day you can always find Theresa, not only doing her own daily scheduled duties, but she is also always eager to help all the other staff in any way that she can.
