This week was a really exciting week here at Cherokee ISD. Our garden project is going really well. We have had so many community members donate gardening tools, seeds, and other supplies. We had cash donors that made it possible for us to get all of our soil paid for. Thanks to Sam's Nursery and Llano Tractor Supply for their cooperation and donations as well. We are truly humbled and in awe of how supportive everyone has been of this project thus far. Our students have begun working on prepping the gardening tubs and will continue working to plant some seeds this week. We can't wait to see what the future holds for our Cherokee Garden.

Our girls basketball honors have been announced this week as well. Co-Newcomer of the year is Tilar Turman. First team all-district players are Chloe Berrio and Maycie Shanklin. Second team all-district players are Payton Hanley and Lauren Roberson. Honorable mention athletes are Payton Duggan, Ariah Ruiz, and Hailey Penney.

Our boys beat Lingleville to snag the title of Area Champs. However they came up short against Gordon, and their season is over. Basketball honors have been announced. Co-MVP is Joey Bond. Offensive player of the year is Joel Valdez. First team all-district player is Caleob Houston. Second team all-district players are Gunner Baugh and Trent Conner. Honorable mentions go to Tatum Shanklin and Case Koerner.

Last week, Joey Bond signed his letter of intent with Tarleton State University. He will throw discus and shot put and possibly hammer throw and javelin. We are proud of you, Joey!

We celebrated Read Across America week last week, too. We had reading challenges, gave book recommendations, and set personal reading goals. We also welcomed guest readers which is always a big hit with the kids. Guest readers were Shawn and Janice Hull, Donna Blossman, Debbie Dugger, Jerry Randolph, Ian Merriman, Mona Parrish, Sue Rhoades, Ashely Arzt, Barbara Gorter, Shari Raesz, and Joey Bond.

Report cards went out last week, so if you did not see one, please let the office know. Have a great week!
