Be Prepared and Stock up Now
During this next week, here are some things you might want to mark off your to-do list:
- Groceries
- Medications
- Any prescriptions refills you may need soon
- Fuel for your vehicles
- Any special items you kids may need in school for the next couple of weeks
If you plan on going out during the week before through the week after the Eclipse Event, you may want to give yourself more time to get to your destination. You may have unexpected traffic delays – evening just going across town.
Safe Solar Viewing and how to capture the Eclipse on your devices
The following is some more information from Dawn Davies from Hill County Alliance.
To view the eclipse directly, you will need Solar Glasses which can be purchased in San Saba and surrounding towns. I was in HEB last weekend, and they had them at the end of almost every cashier row.
Here are some more options for viewing directly:
- Solar cCards
- #14 Welder Glass
- 2x Power Eclipse Viewers
- Binoculars with Solar Filters
- Telescope with Solar Filters
- Solar Telescope
Ms. Davies warned about trying to capture the eclipse on your devices without proper filters. Some of the items she mentioned were a telescope cell phone adaptor, Solar Cell Phone filter, and a Neutral Density Solar Filter. Without proper filters, and not just solar glasses with your phones/cameras, you could have permanent damage to your eyes.
Did you know that even if none of these options are available to you, you can still view the eclipse indirectly?
Here are some ideas:
- Pinhole Projector
- Punch Card
- Colander
- Pasta/slotted spoon
- Disco Ball
- Leaves in Trees
- Ritz Cracker
