As Texas school children prepare to head back to school, the Texas Department of Public Safety reminds all drivers to watch out for children walking to school or waiting for school buses—and to obey all traffic laws related to school buses. “DPS has zero tolerance for vehicles that pass stopped school buses,” said Col.

Brownwood Regional Medical Center (BRMC) has announced the names of fifteen select women who will lead the advisory council for the hospital’s newest program – Healthy Woman. Set to kick off on October 28th, Healthy Woman will feature a monthly series of free seminars, health fairs, education programs and interactive events focusing on women.

The descendants of George and Evie Gatliff held their annual reunion at the Civic Center in San Saba on August 23rd. There were 98 in attendance, including George Gatliff's family and three from Tom Gatliff's family who came to visit.

The Freemasons of San Saba Masonic Lodge No. 612 will meet Saturday, September 6th for their regular stated meeting. A meal of brisket will be provided by Past Master Joe R.

Starting Labor Day, builders and remodelers must have the fruits of their labor inspected at least three times, if the project does not require inspection by a city building official. House Bill 1038, passed by the 2007 Legislature, created a County Inspection program for all homes built or remodeled if the work was performed in unincorporated areas or in cities that do not offer municipal inspections.

On Friday, August 22, Richland Springs hosted its first annual debate workshop. Mrs. Geneva Ethridge, widely-known and respected debate consultant, was the presenter.

Displaying the American Flag on major holidays and special occasions plus the Armadillo High School Flag on Football Fridays has been a proud tradition of the San Saba Rotary Club for 18 years. The Rotary Club has been joined by 110 civic minded business and citizens in supporting this program in 2008.

Amanda Clarice Frost and Joshua Tyler Shoemaker were united in marriage on Saturday, August 9, 2008 in San Saba, Texas. Pastor Alfred Darst of Tyler officiated.

The Central Texas Electric Cooperative (CTEC) annual membership meeting began on an unseasonably cool August afternoon in Mason. The membership, enjoying the 80-degree weather, flooded the Mason High School auditorium to elect three directors, hear the annual report and try their chances at winning a few door prizes from CTEC and its vendors and suppliers.
