EMS volunteers and paid staff spend in the hundreds, and even the thousands, of hours training, but none of the time is dedicated to truly exposing or revealing their true commitment to your community. We have learned how to provide a service, but not how to sell us “the product”.

The 75th Annual San Saba Rodeo is fast approaching! It kicks off May 30th with the E&B Fun Time Rides bringing back the Carnival with bigger and faster rides! Thursday May 30th through Saturday June 1st will be wrist band nights. Pay one price for the band, and the rides are unlimited. County team roping is Thursday night at 7 p.m.

On Sunday, May 19, 2013, shortly after 4:00p.m., the San Saba Volunteer Fire Department was paged out to a fire in the Harmony Ridge area. Upon arrival, the fire fighters discovered the train trestle fully engulfed in flames. Shortly after arriving on the scene, the trestle collapsed, putting an end to a San Saba landmark. Emma Lou Clopton, age 75 of Roscoe, Texas, passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2013 at her residence. Graveside services were held Monday, May 13, 2013 at Kuykendall Cemetery in Cherokee, Texas. Arrangements were under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home. Emma was born on September 5, 1937 in Austin, Texas to Ira Elton and Letha Mae (Smith) McCown.

Angela Eveleen Mason departed this earth to be with her Lord May 7, 2013 surrounded by her loved ones. Gearldine (Patton) Preece went to heaven on May 8, 2013. Gearldine was born in Ohio to David and Floda Patton on December 29, 1955 and was one of ten children. She was the beloved wife of Jerome Dale Preece of San Saba, Texas whom she married on November 4, 1971.

Wow, what a storm we had Friday evening….thus, the recipients of the Yard of the Month for May have decided to pull the award sign from their yard due to the damage it received from the hail and whipping winds! The Garden Club Yard of the Month Committee wishes to still recognize them for their diligent work the past few months.

As we approach National EMS Week, May 19 through 25, 2013, we strive to continue to educate the community in the event of an emergency. There are ways that we can all become 9-1-1 knowledgeable. Below are specific ways where you can be a helper in an emergency situation. The San Saba County Commissioners Court was held on Monday, May 13th at 9:00 a.m. in the County Judge’s Chambers. County Judge Byron Theodosis called the court to order and welcomed everyone. Commissioner Kenley Kroll gave the invocation followed by everyone joining for the pledges to the American and Texas flags. Buddy Oliver and David Williams attended court to announce the Dedication at Harmony Ridge Cemetery as a Texas Historic Cemetery on June 9th at 2 p.m.

On May 8, 2013, the San Saba Grand Jury held its regular meeting to hear cases presented by the District Attorney's Office. Among the cases reviewed by the Grand Jury were Theft of Metal and Burglary investigations conducted by the San Saba Sheriff's Office. Investigations conducted by Deputies Matt Boswell and Mitchell Jacobson resulted in indictments being returned on three individuals.
