Richland Springs Volunteer Fire Department’s Annual Fish Fry Fundraiser will be held on Saturday, June 27th at 6 p.m. at the Fire Station. Quilt Raffle, Door Prizes, and Cake Auction to be held. Come out enjoy the good food, good people, and the music. Fish fried by Jeffrey Bates.

Kayla Fry is the daughter of David and Brenda Fry of Cherokee. Kayla graduated high school last May as Cherokee High School Valedictorian. She will be attending Austin Community College in the fall for their radiology technologist program. She received a $1,500 scholarship.
The annual Oliver reunion was held on June 13th and 14th, 2009. There were 75 family and friends in attendance for the Saturday fish fry prepared by Marlis Oliver and crew. The Harmony Ridge Cemetery Association had their annual meeting and voted to seek the historical designation of Harmony Ridge Cemetery and the Oliver Cemetery in Williamson County. On Sunday morning Scotty Oliver led the family in praise and worship.
CASA for the Highland Lakes will host their 4th Annual Ridin for Kids-Armadillo Run Motorcycle Rally in San Saba, TX. The Rally is a fundraiser and awareness event for CASA, a local non-profit volunteer based child advocacy organization that directly impacts the lives of children affected by abuse in Burnet, Blanco, Lampasas, Llano, & San Saba Counties.
As summer begins, DPS reminds teens to play it safe while driving. In the U.S., motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for teens. Approximately 6,000 teens per year are killed in traffic crashes in this country-that’s the equivalent of one commercial airliner full of teens crashing every week. “Teen drivers’ inexperience, combined with other factors, accounts for the fact that they are involved in three times as many fatal crashes as all other drivers,” said Texas Highway ...
The Heart of Texas Country Music Association sponsored a tour to Branson, Missouri, on May 16th through the 20th. The association chartered two buses for the trip. Eighty six people enjoyed the five day trip that featured entertainment by Moe Bandy, Yakov Smirknoff, Shoji Tabuchi, Barbara Fairchild, Pretty Miss Norma Jean, Ricky Boen and Texas Mud, Jim Stafford, Allen Edwards and the Dixie Stampede.
Live Oak EE Club met June 15, 2009 at the Live Oak Club House. We were joined by the Simpson Creek EE Club. The meeting was called to order by Dorothy Gage who led us in the EE Club Collect. Roll call was answered by naming the exercise you do to keep healthy. Janie Potts, a nurse with Velita Smith Home Health was our speaker.

The Wallace Creek Education Extension Club met Thursday, June 18th at the historical Wallace Creek Schoolhouse on the banks of Wallace Creek. Janie Potts gave the program "Paving the Way to Wellness". The six dimensions of wellness are social, occupational, spiritual, physical, intellectual and emotional. The group did simple exercises that can be done in a chair.

Some have already said goodbye to their fathers and Father's Day is a memory to them. Others have absent fathers. For whatever reason they are no longer with their children.
30 Years Ago June 22, 1989 LCRA to dedicate Xeriscape Garden. Wednesday June, 28, will be a special day for the San Saba Rylander Memorial Library. There will be a dedication ceremony conducted by the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) for the new Xeriscape Garden which accents "Water Conservation through Creative Landscaping". Oops!
We have had no rain this past week but the countryside is still pretty and green. There were only 10 of us present at the community meeting last Saturday night. We had a new couple, John and Daralynne Normand, from Houston. They have bought the Jim Dempsey place and, since he is now retired, they hope to be up here more often.We welcome them to the community.

Here is good news. It was always God’s plan for Jesus Christ to die on the cross. Why? God is displeased with human sin and evil. God is also merciful. He provided a perfect sacrifice to pay for hate, murder and rebellion. That sacrifice was the death of Christ on the cross.
The first day of summer and Father’s Day is now behind us. The heat is still with us and from the looks of the weather forecast it will be with us for some time. The news is scarce this week, as lots of folks are either gone on vacation or just recuperating from the Father’s Day weekend.
I’m off to San Antonio again. It’s getting very close to Canada time! The girls and I are leaving on June 29th and staying gone for about three weeks. I wish I had the stamina and money to take all seven grandkids but I’m afraid it will have to be in small groups unless parents decide to come along.

On June 16, 2009 Nancy Allred, Acting Executive Director for USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) in San Saba/Lampasas-Burnet County today announced farmer and rancher candidate nominations began June 15 for local FSA county committees. The nomination period continues through Aug. 3, 2009. Elections take place this fall. “I encourage all producers to participate in the county committee election process by nominating candidates by the August 3rd deadline,” said Allred.

Receipts totaled 3584 head for the week. A choice offering of cattle were offered with demand good and a very active market that saw stocker steers selling $2 to $3 higher and some instances $5 to $7 higher. Stocker heifers also sold $5 to $10 higher. Feeder steers sold steady to $2 higher and heifers were steady with last week.

Obituaries

Chancy Blodgett, 52, of San Saba, passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2009 at his residence in San Saba. He was born August 15, 1956 in Lampasas, Texas, the son of Clarence William Blodgett and Lorena Mae Lusty. Chancy Blodgett and Mary Nell Shahan were married at the Pecan Grove Baptist Church.
Frances Teague Ohnheiser, 76, a life long resident of Lampasas, passed away on Friday, June 19, 2009 at Scott and White Extended Care, Temple TX. Frances was born March 19, 1933 in Algerita, Texas, the daughter of Roy Lee and Ethel Teague. Frances will always be remembered for her love she had for her children, grandchildren, family and friends.
Billy F. Kidd (1921-2009), 88, passed away Friday, June 19, 2009 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease to be with the Lord and his beloved wife Rosalyn of 63 years. Billy was born in Mason County on June 7, 1921, to William Francis and Georgia Jarvis Kidd. He was the oldest of three siblings, survived by his brother Robert J.
John (Sputnik) Bush, 51, of Richland Springs, passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2009 in Brownwood Regional Medical Center. He was born Jaunary 3, 1958 in Hollandale, MS., the son of John Lee Bush and Connie Thomas Bush. On August 14, 1993 John Calvin Bush and Selena Strutton were married in Port Lavaca, TX.
Mrs. George (Bernice) Wilton went to be with our Lord on June 21, 2009, in Austin, Texas. She resided in Richland Springs for more than 60 years, and had lived at West Oaks Nursing Home in Austin for the past 3 years. Bernice Lee Cook was born May 14, 1915 in Charlotte, Texas, only child of William and Ella Cook.

On June 22, 2009 at College Station, Texas A&M University has named its honor students for the spring 2009 semester, recognizing them for outstanding academic performance. The Deans Honor Roll recognizes students taking at least 15 semester hours during the spring semester who have maintained a 3.75 or higher grade point (GPR) out of a possible 4.0. The San Saba Ladies Golf Association met June 18, 2009 for play day with the Chair for June, Jo Anne Hardy, calling for a game of counting the holes that start with a Tor F less half your handicap.

Abby Dellis, San Saba County 4-H’er, placed third in halter and fourth in trail at the District 7 4-H Horse Show in Sweetwater. Abby will also be participating at State Horse Show July 25- August 1 in Abilene. Abby is the daughter of Shawna & Sonny Paddie. Congratulations Abby!!
The San Saba High School Dilloettes performed both Military and High Kick routines on Saturday, June 20th, 2009, in the 71st Annual San Saba Rodeo Parade. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Dilloette organization. San Saba High School Superindendant, Leigh Ann Glaze honored several faculty members and one school board member at the end of school year staff luncheon held in the HS Cafeteria on May 29th.
Micah Cox, daughter of David and Terry Cox and a student at San Saba Middle School in the San Saba Independent School District, has been selected to travel to the Dallas/Fort Worth area as a participant in Education in Action's Lone Star Leadership Academy, June 22-26, 2009. Micah's selection for the Academy was based on her outstanding academic success, demonstrated leadership ability, a recommendation by her teacher, Judy McCoy, and her involvement in school and community activities.
Jose Olivas, a student at San Saba High School, will join a select group of students representing their schools, communities, and country as People to People student leaders. Olivas has been accepted into the People to People Leadership Summit in Harvard University - Boston, Massachusetts, June 28 - July 4, 2009.
